NIMH Charging - Battery Noise

Hello all

Just noticed today that when charging one of my sets of NIMH batteries they were hissing/bubbling away just before the charge finished. Is this normal? i have not noticed it before, but that doesn't mean it wasn't happeing!

Cheers

Dave

not good

Hissing and bubbling is not a good sign. check the condition of each individual cell.
I have had packs go on fire, but never heard any noise before!

do you equalise your cells regularly? if not it could be one of them peaking before the rest and overcharging slightly resulting in some venting.

the noise will be the battery venting

Is that ok then?
To be honest i just use a propeak cheapish charger, never equalised a battery, not even sure how i am ashamed to say!

you will need an equalising tray and just stick the cells on there. it will balance the voltage in the cells meaning when they are next charged they will all peak at the same time (asuming they are matched cells!).
otherwise over time the cells drift apart and some cells will reach full charge before others and this can damage those cells if the charger doesn't trip off quickly.
