Hi I'm FERRETTI and yes I'm yet another thirty something with a D.I.N.K.Y. lifestyle playing with toy cars. I’ve been involved in model car racing since 1978 when we raced Holiday Buggies, Cheetahs,XR311s and the like at a local school. I still have my Cheetah although it’s in many bits at the moment. My main aim is to collect all the cars I have owned in the past (the only one left to get is a Hornet) and as I was a racer most with the exception of only a few are race-derived models. I have also collected some other race spec 2wd cars that I have not previously owned such as a Super Astute, RC10 and a Dyna Storm as I like their styling. There are still more cars I would like to own as funds and availability allow (isn’t that always the way ;) ). I am not a parts or conversions guru, I would have to class myself as a box art classic rc car freak:eh?: . If this intro is in the wrong forum please feel free to move it. Thanks. You need to be racing that at the Vintage Masters on saturday night.
They were meant to be raced.

Nice looking RC10 you have there, if you're unsure about thrashing it around the track at York then at least drop in at the meeting this Saturday to have a look around and see what cars are in the vintage class, THAT might make you feel nostalgic enough to put it on the track :)

I have two such rc10's and wouldn't dare race them like stu (he's mad) get a used one off ebay and hammer that instead!

My first RC was a hornet - thankfully they rereleased it so I have a new one now, not finished painting it yet mind.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys and gals:D , to answer some questions, yes jimarea51 you will have seen me on RC10talk it's a great site for classic Associated fans (amongst others makes). Sorry Stu, this RC10CE sadly :( will never run they are just becoming too rare in this un-run condition, I have a couple of other 6010s that I might turn into runners and quite a few other cars that I think would fall into the vintage class. Anyway it looks like you got a great site here with lots of fun members:p I look forward to my visits. Thanks again.:)

Now that's out of the way, I'd like to open up this discussion further. The RC10 is a beaut for sure, but I'm wondering when does a remote control car become an ornament?
Don't get me wrong here, I can totally understand how someone's pride and joy should be preserved and I'm in no way condemning that. I would just like to know other peoples views on whether an RC is built to be driven or looked at.
I realise as cars get older and become vintage parts are scarce and therefore the risk of running becomes too high, I have no idea if value becomes an issue, but the example here has caused a lot of interest, I for one think it would be nice to see it and its like on the track.

My first evening of racing I saw Oscar driving an early 80's railed car, 4wd, chain drive, in fact it's pictured on this site, and I know for a fact that the car caused as much if not more interest than all the top line racing cars that were there.

You can think the same things about full size cars. Go to an event like Goodwood and it is fantasic to see all the old race cars on the track doing what they were designed to do. I imaging the York Vintage would be a great laugh!.
Im racing and old Tamiya TA02 (about 10 years old) with all period hot-ups at my local indoor club and its quite funny when I overtake guys running newer cars they just can't belive that its a classic.

In an ideal world I would buy 2 cars (this would apply to real cars as well) Use one and put the other on a shelf...(or garage) there for having the best of both worlds.

I fully understand your point philly and you are quite correct these are RC cars not static kits, they are designed to run, no argument from me. I stopped racing in 2000 and have no interest in starting again does that mean I should be excluded from owning such cars:confused: I don't believe anyone thinks that way. The fact is my interest is now collecting and I think that's OK to, I have a small collection of twenty or so cars only one of which is a runner all the others are destine for or are already on my shelf, each to their own I suppose. I have no issue with someone with a car of this type or even better running and racing it if that is their wish, I think this hobby in all it's forms is great and far reaching and I'm sure there is a place for all.:)

Absolutely no slur on you, or how you persue your hobby was intended, :( I just wanted to get a string going on peoples' views on vintage, rare cars. I've seen the ebay ads for old/new in box/famous cars and I've seen how much they are worth!!:wtf: Although it may not be my cup of tea I would defend anyone's right to follow their distraction any way they wanted. Bottom line is- it's all RC and it's all good!

Sorry philly:( , it was not my intention to sound defensive or retaliatory, I took no offence in your reply as I to am interested in the thought of others, I think it is good to explore such topics from time to time. I just find it difficult sometimes to express my feelings in the written word, I am a much better vocal communicator.:)
