Completely new to RC cars and need some help...

Hi all,
Im new to the whole world of RC cars and ive been really lucky to have been given all my cousins cars and parts.

One of the cars is a Prafa Porsche 911 1:8 scale but the engine has seized up, ive been looking on ebay for a replacement but I have no idea what type i need. According to the box it has a "3,5 ccm engine with aluminium cylinder head" and "Automatic-starting-system with mabuchi 750 motor" then a bit further down it says Engine - 21.

Ill post a pic of the engine when i get a chance.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what type of engine I need to get? or an idea where i can get a cheap engine from?

Cheers,
Steve

Your local model shop may be your best place to go. Tell us where you are, someone here may recommend somewhere if you are stuck.

The engine may not be seized; it may just be stuck at top-dead-centre. This can often happen, especially with a new(ish) engine that has not been used much, or on a cold day. Someone with a bit of experience may be able to free it up and get it running.

Without knowing exactly what it is you have it’s difficult to know exactly what to recommend.

Hope that helps you.

Im in Bury, Greater Manchester. Ive tried WD40 on it but it will not move, would a pic or 2 of the engine help at all? I think my cousin originally bought it from a shop in Farnworth (bolton)

Try BOLTON MODEL MART - they're good guys

Ill try them, are they expensive? any idea how much they will charge for looking at the engine and hopefully getting it up and running?

Funny, I was in there on Friday buying fuel & stuff for the NEO and there was a guy picking up some monster truck - it was there for a service - he was charged £20.

They are goog guys at that shop - if your engine's OK they'll sort it, and if it's bummed they'll see you OK with a replacement.

Hmm the guy at the shop said they are quite old cars and he doesnt think they can get parts. Does anyone know what manufacturer made a car called "super sprint" its a buggy type and another buggy called "Blue Dragon"?

Also, my cousin said there is a shop in Farnworth (next to bolton) in or near an old mill, which is where he got the cars from, does anyone know if its still there and what its called?

Mantua

Ah, just looked on the vintage forum, the super sprint is a Nikko, hmm next question is where can I get a vintage Nikko steering knuckle? lol
