Anyone got a good XXX-T outdoor setup?

Looking to run the XXX-T at Southport and wondering if anyone has a decent setup for outdoors?

Apart from these which are all USA based.

I can give you the set-up i finished the Super Cup at Batley with, if I was going to try it outdoors I don't think I'd change it before trying it. I see no reason why it won't work.

Front:

Middle caster block
Middle bulkhead - no washers
32 1/2 wt oil
Black Pistons
Blue Springs
Inner Tower
Middle Wishbone
35g Lead in front bulkhead

Rear:

Inner upright
Middle bulkhead - no washers - ali bracket
27 1/2 wt oil
Orange Pistons
Yellow Springs
Outer Tower
Middle Wishbone
Medium wheelbase

Orion 7.5 motor
21/86
TrakPower 4900 lipo
200g lead under Lipo

Tyres rear - Yellow mini spike
Tyres front - Yellow V2's

This might not be perfect but was good indoors.

Thanks Northy.

Very helpful of you.

No problem. Just seen in your sig you have an MF truck? That's based on the BK2 rear end isn't it? If so you'll need to alter the gearing as the internal ratio is different, and you might want to try and free-up the rear end or get more steering (if you can!!!) as that rear end is more locked in I think.

Nah, it's the MF1, so has a flat t-plate like the XXXKE and not the BK2.

I do have a problem with steering though. How would you go about loosening the backend based on your setup?

Northy 30-03-2009 08:21 PM

Well that set-up I posted is pretty maxed out for steering - everyone else ran stagger ribs!!

Give it a go and see what you think. It depends where you need the steering, on power, off power etc. If you really need to just loosen the rear try stiffer rear springs. If you want the back to break loose on power try more anti squat.

I'm also running the std/old Losi steering, not the hybrid/CR rack. I tried both setups. The CR setup gives more steering at speed (but you don't struggle for it there) and the old style gives more at low speed/tight hair pins (where I struggled).

Yeah nice...sounds like it will be just the ticket.

I struggled for off power steering really...I could get a little more by blipping the throttle, but not enough.

I'll give it a go for sure. Thanks.

I'll be running the standard steering too, brushed, with a GTX! It's got all my old gear in it, but the good thing about all of that is that you can put a balloon over the speedo and run it ragged in the wet! Great for our "so called" summer months! :woot:

Let me know how it goes as I'll be running mine outdoors this year too :)

Hey Northy,

Well, I made the changes to the setup tonight and there are a few differences mainly because I didn't have the right oils and things, and I had to limit the front shocks inside by a huge 1cm stack of shock limiters (!!), but this is what I'll be running:

Front:

Middle caster block
Middle bulkhead - no washers
No washers under inner steering linkage ballstud (inner)
No washers under caster block linkage ballstud (outer)
30 wt oil
Black Pistons
1cm limiting inside shock
Blue Springs
Inner Tower
Middle Wishbone
30g in front bulkhead

Rear:

Inner upright
Middle bulkhead - no washers
25 wt oil
Orange Pistons
Yellow Springs
Outer Tower
Middle Wishbone
Medium wheelbase

13T Brushed
Lipo 4900
78/22
Tyres rear and front - GRP truck tyres

Will let you know what it's like.

Cheers.

1cm of limiting! That doesn't sound right. Are they rear shocks?

They are quite long, but shorter than the rears. Dunno...they're what came on it. I've got a big stack of limiters inside each one to get them level...and it works well.

So, I said I'd get back to you about this setup.

Very pleased with it overall. Truck had good cornering on power, maybe lacking a little steering off power though. Back end was a little loose towards the end of the day, but this could have been due to the track cooling and the tyres going off a little.

Through the bumps the back end was a little bouncy on occasion, but only on one particular section of the track, and to be honest a lot of the buggies (even the best ones) were having some trouble in the same spot.

If I made any changes I might stand the front shocks more upright to get a little more off power steering, but that would be it for me.

I'd be interested to know how you go on your setup. Please let me know.

Cheers.
