Procat gearing
Anyone know what gear ratio I should be using when running a saturn 540 motor?
I know it is sacrelidge putting one of those motors in the car but I think the 540 class at York is the only real chance I'm going to get to race the old dear. |
for a 27t motor i would use a 28 pinion with an 89 spur , hope this helps.

It does !!
That was roughly what I was thinking, but means I need to find around a 38 tooth 64dp pinion. Not sure the motor will fit in then so perhaps its a smaller gear i need to track down. |
wasnt stock on them cars 95 22 ??

i think thats what came with the kit but I think this was based on a modified rather than stock motor. Who in their right mind would have bought a procat back then and stuck a 540 in it

I can check what I'm running on mine wit the 19 turn in if it'll help? From what I remember it is the smallest spur I could find and the largest pinion that would fit (with a bit of transmission fettling)

Please do, your car was certainly quick enough.
I was running the small spur largest pinion in the 19t vintage too, 118/28 (64dp) but that was undergeared and lacked top end. I'm thinking 3:1 with the 540 but I checked last night and i won't be able to fit a larger pinion in, so I need to source a smaller spur that will fit onto the mms slipper layshaft. |
95t and 92t spurs would have been run with a 22t pinion for 16turn or 17 turn (modified) motors back then.
i would think that the rw-racing spurs for the MMS layshafts are as rare as hens teeth now. |
89/24 boss.

Cheers G & Brian, think I know where I need to get to now.
Those Spurs are probably about as rare as jobs for chartered surveyors at the momment :(:(. Time to have some fun improvising a solution, plenty of time on my hands to do so ;) |
