Doughtyuk.net hacked again

There a pain in the arse

FifteenthNeo 29-01-2007 08:03 AM

You beat me to it. Just PM'd Chris to ask whats going on? Dunno if he knew yet or not:wtf:

_sleigh_ 29-01-2007 08:07 AM

and for a split second as the site loaded, i thought "that's cool, Chris has changed the colour scheme"

Lame arse hackers, wish they go play on the runways at Heathrow !!!!

Chris Doughty 29-01-2007 08:19 AM

I am workin on it, I don't have a recent backup though so it might take some reverse hacking for me to get it back :p

I don't know why these guys try and flex their hacking muscles on unsecure hobby sites... go play with google or MSN if you want respect

its not the end of the world, you still got oople and racechat

Chris Doughty 29-01-2007 08:45 AM

well its back.... kind of,

there might be some oddness with users (if they registered after nov 2006)

I will see if I can get a 'recent' copy of my database from the host

BenG 29-01-2007 09:06 AM

why do they always hack your site?

I think you should upgrade to IPB 2.2, and custom script an mkportal replacement in php and SQL, then you can make it more secure than the Bank of England;)

Chris Doughty 29-01-2007 09:11 AM

I have to pay money then,

half the problem is that I use the free versions of the IPB forum and MKPortal, they are old and so open to exploits its an easy target...

these hackers are the trophy hunters of the hacker world, its like factory drivers racing club meetings to get their win ratio up :p

BenG 29-01-2007 09:19 AM

I think the $69 for the new IPB 2.2 would be perfect. And MKportal is free anyways lol.

Chris Doughty 29-01-2007 09:34 AM

where do you see it for $69? I can only see it for $149!

BenG 29-01-2007 10:19 AM

Oh thats right, they canceled my subscriptions. Sorry mate. I have to pay every 6 months now. You tried V bulletin? I have an up-to-date version I don't use, you can have that ;)

DCM 29-01-2007 10:34 AM

Why should he have to pay, maybe the hackers just aren't good enough to tackle sites with some form of security.

Can your Host not offer some form of better security though, Chris?

BenG 29-01-2007 10:40 AM

Its the forum software, its out of date,. I think you are using 1.3 aren't you Chris? I have 2.2 ;)

I do have a registered version of Vbulletin he can have for free, I don't use it, I didn't get on with V bulletin lol

Chris Doughty 29-01-2007 10:42 AM

the host has perfect security, its just that there are loop holes in the software that I run that allow remote code execusion and other things that hackers like

I have 1.3 which was the last free IPB board.

thanks for the offer Ben, I will have a dig around, I will proberbly just patch up any holes I find and then recover the next time it gets hacked

BenG 29-01-2007 11:21 AM

ok mate, np. If you can find out what they are doing each time, maybe you can get a security mod or hack someone has made somewhere to fix the loophole.

Infact here is a fix for a medium risk security hole

ooo and this looks like a really cool mod to fix any holes with it,
