Helping a friend get started

Hey all,

I've just come back to 1/10th electric off road racing after a 12+ year layoff, and am having fun giving my old Losi XX a bit of a race. Terrified I'm going to break the thing, since spares seem to be rather unobtainable, but eh ;).

I started chatting about it with a friend, who mentioned that he used to have a Tamiya Manta Ray, and got excited about the possibility of starting racing. I've got a few very basic parts I'm giving to him just to get started and give it a try (an old Tamiya Bear Hawk, acoms transmitter, 540 motor, servo, etc), but he still needs a couple of bits - a 27mhz receiver, some batteries, and an ESC.

So, since I'm now massively out of date, I was wondering what ESC to recommend. He wants something cheap to start off with, but that will let him use a bit of a faster motor if he gets interested - a 15 turn limit would be fine. He'll want one that can do reverse (allowed, it seems, at the track I'm racing at), preferably with a brake as well. Any thoughts?

Cheers for the offer - but we found a *really* good deal on an mtroniks rv11 in the end. I'm given to understand that it's a very good speedo for the money, except when it blows up :p
