Tyre compounds and colours
 

Really quick question.

Softest to hardest what are the colours of the Ballistic and Schumacher off road tyres (particularly the minispikes)?

BB:

SOFT
purple
pink
green
blue
HARD

Schu:

SOFT
pink
green
yellow
blue
HARD

A further question on the Shumacher tyres,

Yellow & Blue are the same 'type' of rubber, yellow being a softer compound.

Green is a different 'type' of rubber.

I was told this about 10 years ago and have never had a reason to doubt it, is it correct?

AFAIK yes. Do the sniff test if you like Stu, yellows and blues smell of rubber, greens smell nothing similar. (er.... so i been told yer honour:))

yellows are quite a firm feeling rubber like sch blues, and they rebound to shape. sch greens are a weird soft rubber that squishes and doesn't rebound to shape very well. greens actually feel softer to manipulate but the compound is harder than yellows.

So what is recomended for astro in damp and wet conditions. I know Sch Yellow for dry not sure about damp and wet?

Wet/Damp astro usaully requires Green BB's or Green Schumacher Mini's - BUT BB Pinks have also been found to work, but being that bit softer have a tendancy to wear out quicker.

i have been told blue schus work well in the wet. is it worth me gluing up a set . or should i just stick with yellows. or even buy a set of bb greens.
aint this tyre choice thing confusing sometimes:)

Easiest thing is to have Schuey yellows and BB green's in your box, the BB's generally work everywhere when it's damp/wet(/moist :p) and yellows in the dry - simples :)

If you have a set of blues lying around, they do work well on wet grass tracks, astro is a different matter;)
