What was your First RC vehicle??
3 Attachment(s)
Been browsing Ebay and stumbled across a listing which had me feeling all nostalgic. It was for my first ever RC vehicle, a 1985 Tandy Dash truck.
Where did everybody else's RC journeys start?? |
I had a few cheaper smaller ones before this but I too had a Truck like that from Tandy , wasn’t as early as 1985 though probably more like 1991/1992 . Remember so looking forward to going to get it only to be disappointed at how slow it was when I got it home lol .

To be fair I don't think I got mine in '85 either, late 80s I think.
A few years later and my Grandad spoilt me with a Cougar 2 Team from Otley Modelsport as it was back then. All ready built at the shop too, with a Futaba Attack SR transmitter. To say it was an upgrade was an understatement!! I broke too many front ends on that and was always losing circlips from the front hinge pins! |
My 1st RC car was a Knight Rider, made by a company called Matsushiro, or something like that, they also made a Miami vice Ferrari and Facemans Corvette.

1984 with one of these badboys
https://i.ibb.co/S6M9Sx0/s-l640.jpg It did miles and I was forever asking for new batteries. I didn't get serious with RC until 1994 when I got a Mardave Cobra! |
My first rc was a toy grade Corgi Capri Rally (still looking for one..), first proper rc was a Tamiya Pajero(with wheelie bar), first race car was an Optima
|
Tamiya Fast attack vehicle. Crashed is so many times the entire front end was held together with superglue. Happy days.
|
It was a mardave mini stock in 1987 :o
|
Tamiya rough rider, Christmas after tamiya rere my wife surprised me with one, still need to build it, more than likely be my retirement build

Tamiya Manta Ray with a Futaba Attack II in that lovely beige.....
|
My Attack SR was the same lovely beige. I think they did a grey version too. The beige version really was "of it's time" though.
|
Bought a second hand Rough Rider for my 9 year old son and ,because he wouldn't let me use it, an AYK Supertrail for myself..! That was a long time ago..
|
I had a paper round. Just to set this out. £3.00 a week YES !!! £3.00 a week.. That was early mornings, afternoons Monday to Saturday, with PINKS at 5.45pm Saturday and a Sunday morning killer with all the magazines.....
I saved for a Tamiya Grasshopper. Anyway got the £69.00 I think it was then, then off to Puntiloio in Hinckley ( not sure of spelling) Modelshop. Walked in and WHAM !!!! BAMB !!!! SLAM !!!! GEEEEEZZZZZUZSSS There it was the NEW RELEASE with a massive fluorescent orange STAR on it. PRICE £89.00 :( oh no Ive only got enough for the grasshopper. Mummy came to my rescue and gave me the rest. IT WAS THE FROG !!!!!, Then later on when I started racing in 1989 I had a TERRA SCORCHER which then became the PRO-CAT and a TOP-CAT..... Good memories......:D |
I had many cheap cars growing up, but my first proper rc car was a tamiya ford escort cosworth, which I wish I had kept nice now. I raced it around the southport track back in the late 90's which then started me with competition cars with a b3.
|
I had a load of cheap RC cars as a kid mostly Tyco or Nikko's from Argos.
First proper Hobby grade was a Tamiya Grasshopper 2 Super G, followed by a Mardave Meteor. |
