bj4we wheels
hi does anybody know any good sites or people who sell spoked bj4we wheels front and back? these are the same as a losi xx4 and a xxx4.
this is because i have some cheap and nasty one and they strip easyilly and i is realy frustrating. having to buy a new set every meeting or so!:( |
Hi mate :)
I assume you're talking about the front wheels stripping? I don't know about spoked wheels but there's a few ways to make wheels last longer. I noticed the thread on the stub axle doesn't go down far enough so the nut stops before it's tight on the wheel, so on mine I put a large washer on before the wheelnut (big enough to fit over the axle) and I havn't stripped a Losi wheel since. Dan runs the Ballistic Buggy wheels on his X5 which are thicker therefore don't require the washer, the hex part of the wheel is a bit deeper too. The only problem is they're a bit ugly, doesn't really matter on an X5 though :D Another method I can see working (havn't tried it yet, I think it's Bathy that does this...?) is to put a longer roll pin through the axle and cut a slot into the wheel to accept it. |
Bathy doesn't go fast enough to strip wheels tho :eh?:

ive done the longer pins conversion, just used a thick body clip straight bit and thread locked it in, bit of a pain to dremel all my wheels but havent done a single pair since the mod was fitted.

If you use the orginal steel nyloc nuts with the brown insert you should not have a problem, as they have a chamfere on the inside hole, the alum nuts do not have this so you cannot tighten them as much, then you strip the hex's.
So if you can use the nuts which come with the car, or put a chamfere on you alum nuts. |
I have chamfered the inside of the front wheel nuts on my S4 (same front hubs as BJ4/XX4/X5) and I've not done a set of wheels since.
I used to use washers ala Rich Lowe on my X5 which also worked, was a bit annoying if you forgot to catch the washer when you take a wheel off LOL. |
Have you chamfered the alloy ones Craig?
|
Yes Rich, the blue Jconcepts ones. Put the nut in a nut driver and used an 8mm drill to camfer the nut

Are you going to Coastal at the weekend? Could compare your BJ4 to my S4 to see if there is anything obvious causing the problem. Have some Losi wheels you could try, and some slightly different wheel nuts if you want. |
