New car - same electrics or new?
 

I'm still very new to RC racing and I've started with a 2nd / 3rd hand XB2 which is fine but because its already assembled I've always got the bugging thought that if/when something breaks that I'll have no idea how to fix it.

So I've decided to start afresh with a new kit (PRS1 v3) and I'm wondering if it possible / easier to transfer the motor, esc, servo, wiring over from the old car or if its easier to go new.

Whats your thoughts please?

It's easy to do if you can solder. Takes about 20 minutes.

Just need to make sure that the servo and motor are suitable. Shouldn't be an issue swapping between 2wd platforms as you are.

But you don't really want to be dropping a 5.5t motor from a 4wd into a 2wd platform! Or using a nice lightweight, low profile servo into a heavy 4wd......

It is going like for like in terms of 2WD. so at least getting hold of a soldering iron will be easier and cheaper than new components.

To be honest if you're swapping 2WD to 2WD you might not even need to solder. Assuming both are mid motor, you can probably replicate the electronics layout in new car...just swap the gear over.

Take pinion off motor and undo the two motor mount screws
Pop balljoint off servo
Remove all electrics

I'd unplug it all, give everything a wipe down with brake cleaner or similar, check all wires/connectors.
Peel/clean old servo tape off

Build lovely new chassis : )

And just reinstall in new chassis.

Worst case you'll need new wires on speedo; if you do you want a hot iron so you can do it quickly and not cook ESC internals. Someone at your club will help if you've never soldered, it's really not as hard as it looks to do a nice clean job.

if you get new, you will still need to solder....if your old electrics are working and you are happy with them, re use them

Maybe ask someone at your local club to help, a few tips and guidelines and experience could help a lot.
Im sure some one can point you in the right direction
