LiPo Charging Parameters
A question for the LiPo boffs.
I've got a ProTrak charger that is LiPo compatable. It allows for the user to specify the voltage at which it changes from constant current (CC) charging to constant voltage (CV) charging. What do the main chargers have this set at, and with what cut-off amp draw? The ProTrak site has the figures 8.4v (to go from CC to CV) and 2A to stop the charge. I'm presuming these are fine but has anyone got any problems with them? Ta :) |
4.2v per cell is peak voltage, so 8.4v for a 2S pack
What amps you use is dependant on the capacity and recommended charge rate for the battery itself, but 1C (5amps for a 5000maH battery, 3.8 for a 3800 etc) is a good setting to use. I've not seen any setting on when to stop the charge (other chargers, not the pro-trak) so can't help with that bit, sorry |
Hey,
I use the following settings when charging lipos on a protrak. Cut off of 0.5 amps and change over voltage of 8.2v for the pack. (I regard the 8.4 as a max setting!) Seems to work for me. MiCk B. :-) |
Thanks for that.
I'll try your settings once I get some packs.:D |

For all this worry about Lipo batteries and the dangers of using them, has anyone seen one blow up? And if so was it miss use or just random.

Thanks for the replies. Now another ProTrak question (and I can't remember what software version it is, but it's after 11) - can you change the charged / welcome tones on it as I can't find that option (could do it on the earlier ones)? The dulcet tones of a slightly off key 'Pink Panther' are doing my sweed in :(
