Got myself quite a modern car, I,m struggling to fit the shorty down the centre of the car, help please

That's how it fits. you plug in the connector under the pulley first, then slot it in.

Thats the problem I,m having, if I fit the battery locator, plug the positive connector in, it fouls on the rear casing

you need to loose the adaptors and use a low profile 5mm connector

Turn the battery round, so the plugs are at the front, gives you more clearance for the plugs.

No the front rear belt pulley is in the way then, and its lower than the rear one.
