Createx Wicked Colours

Does anybody have issues with this paint?

Paint doesnt adhere to surface and flakes off.
Also clogs up the brush even when thinned.

Cheers

I only tend to use wicked white and black, never had and issues with them. Make sure you clean the shell properly, I wash them out with hot soapy water rinse and dry and you should be good.

Same here. Using their blues and a couple of others as its all i could get at the time. It's thicker, and will take more thinning but no issues with adhesion. The blue i used it their pearl iridescent blue, as in piccy

as others never ha a issue with wicked paint, but gradually going back to createx as i can get big bottle sizes.

Smdesigns is the importer and usually has good stock, or Airbrushes.com is brilliant for paint

Stew - where do you get the big bottles from? I can't find the 8oz bottles but could really do with an opaque white and black in large
Cheers

Thanks for the replies.
The white and the black I used worked well and appear to adhere well.
I painted 2 TC shells and 1 off-road.
The TC shells are the ones that flaked off but the off-road is fine.
Im guessing that you guys used them on off-road shells so the problem may not be as apparent as they dont get bashed and flexed so much.
I definately wash the shells well enough before painting and never had any problem with the normal Createx paint.
There is another member at my club that had the same issue using the wicked colours on a TC shell.

Ashlandchris 03-03-2017 10:59 AM

also, when washing the shell I use a green scourer as this seems to "key" (e.g. "scuff") the surface slightly. Be careful on the window areas as this can show if no paint is applied, but it is invisible once the paint is applied.

Not sure I'd agree that my off-road shells don't get bashed as much though:thumbsup:

Silly question - I know you said you didn't have any problem with regular Createx but do you back the TC shells with a sealant ? Nothing but white gloss enamel with TC works for me so paint doesn't come off. Sometimes if you have too much of a built up area of colours then the lock in is not as good.

StwBald 03-03-2017 12:55 PM

Big Bottles are from airbrushandpaint.co.uk.

Washing shells, since starting airbrushing I have never used a green scourer pad just wash with a little washing up liquid and kitchen roll, rinse thoroughly with clean water, then dry with kitchen roll.

I then spray liquid mask within 30min of cleaning and then just leave them till im ready design and cut.

Never had a problem with this method back with opaque paint as a final coat.

Hope this helps

Fantastic - thank you

PS - I always finish with a coat of clear laquer to seal

Wig 04-03-2017 03:28 PM

I always use a laquer to finish.
Like I said I never had a problem with the normal Createx. Just to be on the safe side I wont be using the Wicked Colors again.
Its pretty disheartening when you've spent all the money, time and effort into painting a shell when the paint flakes off at the first meeting.
It has put me off painting with a brush and I hav'nt painted anything since. Just got to buy a load of new paint now.

Schumacher are now doing hobbynox paint, ive used a bit of this and it seems good, and can be obtained by any Schumacher stockist. Good range of colors, and the coverage seems good on the ones I've used.
