Iphone jailbreak

So....Ive just jailbroken my mates iphone, tethered it to my laptop so i can surf via it and am getting 3mb download rate (300k/s) :o Im amazed by this and instead of buying mobile broadband now iam going down the iphone route.
Well it amazes me :woot::lol:

but won;t you have to pay a data charge? i didn't think tethered data was included in the bundles, only handset data?

Yeah but how would they know? It's all on the 3G connection ;)
O2 is unlimited (up to about 200 odd mb)

pro4nut used to work for O2, and i had a plan to do the same with unlimited mobile phone internet instead of getting a dongle. But he said you will be charged. they can tell the difference in the data somehow.
If he comes on he can hopefully explain. And the data cost is astronimical too! so be careful

Not my phone lol. Be interested to know how as it runs through the phone, not direct on the laptop.

jim76 24-01-2009 10:58 PM

yeah, i can't remember exactly. i think it's the fact that the data is requested in PC format as opposed to mobile format or something along those lines. basically they can tell that the data is being used as a modem not for use on the phone.

some networks or bundles allow you to tether inclusive, but others don't so you just have to be careful.

Thats annoying as i wanted to use it in place of a mobile BB package so i didnt have to pay the monthly charges. I think im going to have to phone O2 to get a proper story on this. I know they had a program called 'netshare' released for a very short time which allowed tethering, but they pulled it quickly.

MAC MAN

Southwell 25-01-2009 12:37 AM

I used this: http://www.simonblog.com/2008/11/25/...ng-pwnagetool/

But the Windows version. Makes sure your itunes is up to date and phone and stuff.

Tethering might be a bit tricky but there are step by steps. Basically you have to make a network on your laptop, join it, then join your iphone to the laptop connection, which makes the internet available to the laptop.

If my mates went wrong he was just gonna smash it and claim on his insurance  So don't blame me if it goes Pete Tong. :p

I inquired about just this with the new browser phone from 3, unlimited internet, full browsing, but only on the phone, they were upfront that any use as a modem would incur charges.
My mate does it on O2 with his blackberry, same problem.

Some things never fail to amaze me! Surely if someone can afford £400 for a PHONE (not a computer, car, TV or anything else) then mobile BB is cheap anyway?

Since when has it cost £400 on contract?

Why would you buy mobile bb if your phone is capable of doing the same job, and do it quicker....but if it costs a lot to use then it wont be worth it.

That's agood point, Ian. Contract never occured to me! I just meant that an IPhone is an expensive toy (even on contract?) and mobile BB can be had fairly cheap.
