Decisions, decisions.

Currently own a ftx vantage and managed to muster up some money, only £80. No I have a choice, do I buy bits for my ftx or do I sell it get about £70-80 for it and buy a second hand Schumacher, losi or something else with racing pedigree.
Can you give me your opinion please?

alex97 11-10-2016 12:52 PM

Sell and get something better. You can pick a good 2 or 4wd buggy up for around the £150 mark.

Any suggestions? I would prefer a 4WD

tonydevon 11-10-2016 01:19 PM

As already said. Used buggy deals are 2 a penny.

Buy something with all the pimped up bits and let someone else loose a fortune lol.

Im selling on my b5m's soon and know im facing getting maybe 20% of what that lost cost to build new lol.

Keep eye on the for sale section here as bargains are more common here than on ebay etc.

If your wanting to race then check the club is active with 4wd. It seems like a very quiet class.

Agree with the others buy a good second hand competiton spec car even if a few years old, ideally with some wheels and tyres suitable for your local track.

Is there any brands. I should look for and avoid?

SiTrace 11-10-2016 04:57 PM

Personally, If I was on a limited budget i would stick with either Team Associated, Losi, Yokomo, Schumacher or Kyosho, and only because these are the best supported and popular brands (and probaly offer the best used choice and part availability in the UK). Other brands to consider are Xray, Team C, PR Racing, Serpent or Team Durango and while these are generally less popular, they are equally competitive.

Of course this is just my opinion.

Do you think I could pick a good one up for £100-140? Which model would you recommend?

markwilliamson2001 11-10-2016 05:55 PM

I've got a B44.1 with big bore shocks I'm trying to shift if your interested.
Still make almost the same car, was hoping for about £100 inc postage.

Just needs a body, and set of wheels and tyres :-)

fidspeed 11-10-2016 06:01 PM

for 140 ish you are unlikely to get the latest K2 Schumacher but K1 aeros should be available as assoociated B44.3

losi 22-4 are ok too but not super popular
Xray xb4 excellent choice very tough currently 16 model is very good and new one out soon, save a few more quid and go for K2 or Xb4 16

support excellent for both

regards dave

Is £140 just for the car or all electrics aswell?

£140 will get a very decent buggy no electrics (roller) + some spares, if it needs to be ready to run you will be limited and probably looking at older cars.

SiTrace 11-10-2016 06:18 PM

2wd I would go with a Associated b5 variant. 4wd I would go with a Schumacher k1, k1 aero or b44.2 or 3. Again this mainly due to popularity and spares availability, a newer good Yokomo or Kyosho are probably out of that price range. Let us know what you decide.

alex97 11-10-2016 06:45 PM

When I was looking for a new buggy I found the yokomo B-Max 4 iii was a good option. Nice to work on, quick, good part support and not badly priced.

Maybe post a wanted add in the wanted section.

Btw the associated b44 range are all imperial so you'd need new tools. Other than that it's a solid buggy.

What's the difference between them all?
Like b44.1 b44.2 b44.3

SiTrace 11-10-2016 07:39 PM

The versions are evolutions rather than revolutions hence the consistent b44 name. I couldn't tell you each change in the model history, but with a little online research you could find them, battery placement is a big factor based on what you already use or plan to buy, eg saddles or shorty's. Personally I would just get the latest model in the best condition with the best hop up's and spares I could find or was offered. You could place an ad in the wanted section and see what's on offer. Any of the b44 range with proper set up will be better than you will be as a novice, they have won many championships over the years. I wouldn't discount the b44.1 offered from Mark above, any spare cash could buy you a decent Lipo, servo and/ or shell.

When I came back to racing I bought a B44.2 as I'd always raced 4WD as a kid.

Unfortunately I found out quickly the the class is practically non existent down here, and it wasn't long before I sold it and went 2WD. It's no fun racing on your own; check with your local club how many 2WD vs 4WD before you buy anything!

That's if you intend to race of course!

might be worth a try?

tonydevon 12-10-2016 09:31 AM

As already mentioned by myself and others. Check the club has active 4wd section

I personally would go 2wd and look for something popular and mainstream. I bought b5m as it mega popular stacks of spares and knowledge.

Im new but keeping up with the middleish of the results drivers. Mates with b6 etc. Cars far more capable than i ever be.

But it hasnt stopped the green eyed monster in me buying a b6 lol.

My local club has a health 2wd and 4wd classes. I've just heard that 4WD are easier to drive. I've had a look at the BZ-444, just dont know if its worth it. I know its a clone of the Team c Tm04.

andrewc 12-10-2016 01:24 PM

Outdoors in slippery conditions 4WD easier. Indoors with loads of grip I'd say harder, more lairy, more tyres, more heat etc. (I do both and I'm still struggling with 4WD indoors!)

But don't be put off! if you're going 4WD personally I'd go with a Yokomo Bmax4 III or an Xray XB4 2015 or 2016. Stronger than B44 and metric.

Good luck whatever you decide!
