Orlando

Bit of an odd one - I'm off to Orlando in a couple of weeks, so does anyone know of any good RC model shops in the area? I run 4 x Associated cars so thought it might be a good opportunity to pick up some spares

One of our lot is in Florida now and he has found a shop with a track that let you hire the cars.

I will find out and get back to you

Thanks for that - doubt the missus will be impressed but gotta get my fix while I'm in the US!

Central Florida Hobbies is the longest standing (and only real remaining) model shop in the Orlando area I think.

They won't have much racing stuff in stock but they can get anything you need/want within a week. I always call in when I visit - been going since I was a kid!

Unfortunately there isn't much Off road racing in the area these days (although they have an on road track at the side if Kissimmee Golf club, recently held a Nitro worlds I think).

There is a big indoor track and shop near Cocoa Beach if you wanted to take a drive that way (Space Coast RC/Superior Hobbies). Superior Hobbies used to have a store in Orlando but it closed earlier this year and moved to the coast.

florida hobbies is the nearest to the tourist area of Idrive and kissimee, and if you email Sharon in advance they will get you what you want if they don't have it (don't forget to ask here which tea and chocolate she likes if you mail her)

superior hobbies was a bigger store in Orlando but has now moved to the coast with its own raceway http://www.superiorhobbies.com/

Thanks guys. We're going to head to Kennedy Space Centre while we're out there so Cocoa beach isn't too far. And Florida Hobbies isn't far from where we're staying anyway so will definitely be going there.

+1 for Central Florida Hobbies!
Get in touch with Sharon, like others have said they can get anything to order and will ship big boxes home directly if they are too big to fit in your luggage!

Cheers Steve - contacted them and they have what I want in stock

Sharon emailed me back and I'm going to take them some tea bags and chocolate from the UK - might even get a discount!

I remember going to Central Florida Hobbies back when I was about 10 on holiday with my parents - stocking up on LRP QC2's when the exchange rate was really good! :)

Visited Central Florida Hobbies and Graves RC whilst I was out there.

CFH were open but having just moved site they were a little upside down. Still Sharon appreciated the PG tips and Dairy Milk and it earned me a discount on some parts

Graves RC was a bigger store but very plane biased. Having said that they still had some useful parts so I parted with a few more dollars.

As Toby said above, and re-iterated by both shops, racing is sparse on the East Coast. Bashing is popular and that's what the shops cater for, but with property prices so high, land for a permanent venue isn't really viable. Drivers don't want to pay the race fees, or they'll turn up to practice and then go home!

Just goes to show we've got it pretty good over here!
