How do i charge this transmitter battery?

Hi,

Lipos are a bit new to be so sorry for the question. I got a lrp quadro pro 3 charger off here, and i've been happily charging my 2s bullet connected lipos with it using the included wire.

I've now got a 3s lipo transmitter battery, this one
http://hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking/sto...dproduct=31945

But there is no way to connect it to the charger, i can see loads of "extension" cables on hobbyking and ebay, but i'm really not sure which one i should be getting as some just seem have the wrong connectors on, i assume i should be using the white 4 holed connector on the lipo??

Is this the right thing? Or is this just the balance cable, do i actually need a red and black banana plug as well?
http://hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking/sto...arehouse_.html

Cheers

Daz

That is just a balance lead.
Got pic or link to the battery?

Doh...

Ok, what I did with mine buy a servo extension lead, cut off one end and splice that into my charger - my charger connects via 4mm bullets so it was easy to do. Buy the balance lead too!

sounds like a nightmare to me  anything that involves cables or solder or any of that stuff usually means something blows up, ready made stuff would be ideal

I assume there must be something available, as most transmitter lipo's come like this.
If anyone sells it, hobbyking will. It's just a matter of finding it!

I've not used the LRP charger before but from a Google search it looks like you just plug in the usual red/black banana leads into the side.

I used to have the exact same 3s battery in my CoreRC transmitter and I luckily got the correct charging cable with my charger.

This cable set will fit your charger and also comes with the exact extension you need: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Core-RC-UD...4AAOSwGYVW9je6

you'll also need a 3s JST lead too.

Or if you want to cut straight to the chase, buy this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8064-RC-4m...UAAOSwQYZWxHfD

Yep, only with loads of solder lumps and insulating tape

thanks for the info, most of the JST leads i can see dont seem to be the correct type to fit into my balance port, they all seem to have 2 ridges on them, think this one looks about right

I assume that just plugs into the white connector on the battery and the banana plug to servo connector into the black servo type

Daz, to charge the battery you just need a banana plug to Futaba lead. To keep the battery in good condition every so often you will need to balance charge it.
The balance port on the charger isn't made to have batteries plugged straight into it as there are so many different balance plugs around. The balance lead you linked to will do the job, but I would suggest a balance board instead http://www.wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/88018/ as it will also allow you to balance charge your car lipos as well.

Thanks Terry although that connector with the board doesn't look right either

Why do they have to make it so complicated

I think Terry.sc is correct. Maybe this photo I quickly knocked up will help: -
Attachment 89913

This will get the balancer bit of the wiring in place. You will still need the previously mentioned bullet to futaba lead to do the main power connection.

daz75 01-06-2016 02:35 PM

he usually is  thanks for the picture

Here's a photo of how I do mine
Servo type connector goes to red/black 4mm sockets on charger. 3cell balance lead from battery goes to 3cell slot on balance board, which in turn goes to balance connector on charger (obviously the photo is using the 2cell port as it is a 2 cell battery)

as i suspected the connector to the balance port is wrong, anyone want to buy a balance board

Looking further i think this is actually the one i need

anyone confirm? guess i should have put my charger type in the first post, guess they aren't all the same :-(

Sounds like the same problem I had mate with my LRP TX 7.4v lipo to fit into my Sanwa MT4 radio....

Theres 2 different balance plug versions....

JST - XHR (XH) standard version

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/7-4v-3000m...UAAOSwmmxW6pt5

JST - EHR (EH)

https://www.smddirect.co.uk/430355-l...o-3000-tx.html

There are plugs on ebay of both kinds to swap them around....

JST - XHR (XH) standard version

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10x-JST-XH...fqOk0RvHODj0nA

JST - EHR (EH)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-JST-EH-...5dchQjvzTwGYMQ

Or you could just buy these instead.....

dazp1976 16-06-2016 11:01 PM

You want:
One of these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8064-RC-4m...UAAOSwQYZWxHfD
And one of these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JST-XH-RC-...AAAOSwYHxWHzXS

Job done
Daz.

Or you can skip getting a board and get the balance lead itself to fit like so by skimming off one if the little lugs on the plug making sure you get the polarity correct:

i already bought that board and it doesn't fit correctly, as you can see from the pic below the one on the right is the board cable, and it has a ridge all the way round it that stops it fitting properly

As Steven has pointed out, i guess this is because it the XHR board instead of the EHR one
