High speed tyres

1 Attachment(s)
Hi all,

In TC size what's the best option for Tarmac for high speed runs? I'm building a car which is currently tearing new Sorex 28's off the rim after about 2 mins running. Car is set up well, not being abused, they are obviously ballooning too much.

Cheers

Foams might hold out a bit longer, 28's are a bit soft for Tarmac anyway. I would try 37 shore foams,
What's powering it? The top mod drivers using 4.5t motors and 2s lipo's use 32 - 36deg rubber tyres

Try ROSSA who specialise in high speed at www.rossa.org.uk. They have a forum at http://www.fast-rc.co.uk/forum/index.php where you can ask what they recommend. Some of their rocket cars turn 200mph, so I think they might know a thing or two about keeping tyres on rims! HTH :)

the rossa boys run foams on most things, theyve had a 1/10 tourer to 145mph on foams, rubber tyres distort too much causing them to tear, if you neeed to use rubber then make sure the tyres are belted with a fibreglass tape to stop them expanding too much. take a trip to fast-rc.co.uk and have a read, they do know their stuff!

Thanks guys

It's on 2S with a 3.5t motor, running almost full boost. Basically I'm looking for 100mph!

Cheers!

you'll probably be ok with standard tc tyres with belting securely fixed to the inside, i just used a fibreglass tape meant for rc planes and cyano'd it in place rather than relying on its own adhesive. no idea on the speed but it was quite quick, 4800kv sensorless on 4 cell, geared 32/72 in an old tc3, i had no way of recording speed at the time though. the big learner was to set dual rates, when you do your speed run you only want at most 20% of you normal steering, also normal tc body doesnt work, the car flips at speed, try to find something more like the shape of a 1/12 circuitbody!
