centrally mounted battery
 

Thinking of changing my YZ-4 to centre battery mount i see that Lee Martin is making brackets to do this but i am concerned with clearance on the terminal to the underside of the rear belt,if anyone has some pics with the conversion fitted and a battery in place can they post it so can see it fitted.

It's bloody close but ok if you use low profile connectors and do nice neat flat soldering. I've just retired a friends buggy with the centre mounts from LMR fitted.

It's also a PIA to get to the terminals and can't really charge a battery in place that way either. I tried it but switched back to sideways

You should never charge the lipo in the car anyway. It is against all club rules if it's a club in the BRCA! A lipo should always be charged in a lipo sack even at home. This way if you have a lipo fire it will be contained rarther than burn you whole buggy.

Well it's not a club in the BrCA, I'm in Canada. While I agree it is safer to use a bag, I have yet seen a battery go up in smoke/flames while being charged. I've seen a few go up while running and fortunately not mine. I charge at under 2c rate, so don't really go nuts on them.

Doesn't the rear belt come very close if not touch the battery brace when the battery is centre mounted? I found it was too close for comfort

The battery brace used to be fine when I ran with this set-up, but as mentioned before the connector soldering needs to be nice and flat.
After I tried this, I switched to saddle packs and meanwhile have returned to the transverse shorty with a 25g weight underneath and the B-Max4III balance weight in front of the battery, which works best for me.
