To seal? Out not to seal?
Do folk seal the inside of their shells?
What does it do for you? Abrasion resistance? What would be suitable to go over fascolor paint? Thanks |
Halfords clear lacquer, I'm just about to do one just now.
|
Thanks for replying.
Did it make them last longer? |
Yes, stops the paint getting easily scratched off.
|
Yeah I seal my pro painted with clear plasticote available from hobbycraft.
It seals them from water damage, and makes them a lot more resistant to scratches. |
Likewise. Currently using clear lacquer from somewhere other than halfords (can't remember brand) but works just as well.
I then tend to stick a bit of gaffa tape over bits where paint may be rubbed such as front bulkhead, where battery wires stick up etc as this helps protect it further |
Interestingly, I stopped by halfords as I was passing, and tried it on a bit of the shell that I was going to trim off... And it basically melted all of the paint off!
Any thoughts? Like I say, I'm using faskolor... |
I have had that once.
I use a hairdryer to warm the shell slightly before putting a thin most of lacquer on then hairdry again to dry it rapidly. It doesn't cause any effect to paint if it goes on quick and thin. Once first coat is on and sealed it becomes less critical but I tend to do 3 thin coats I use fascolor and createx paints - all water based |
No problem with mine also done fascolor and createx, Halfords clear went on last night.

make sure the paint has totally dried before you put the lacquer on, then as said warm shell with hair drier and spray on thin coats
|
Tape
Black insulation tape. Thin strong flexi goes round curves. Put it where it needs it.
