Ebay cheap brushless
 

Hi all.

Looking for some brushless kit to try out.
Possibly will return to track or train up my son.
Have seen speed passion reventon combo on eBay for $49.99 from rcmart in HK.
Anyone have any bad experiences?
I've got all my old kit and my son is bashing a cat 3000.
Was planning to run brushless with my cells for now.

i got the -R version combo when i started, but soon upgraded as the motor limit was i think 8T max ..... but it ran perfectly, i would recommend buying from uk as with electrics theres no guarantee u wont get a dud, and returning it to HK will be a pain.

Fair point.
Budget is key as this is purely dipping the toe in.
The main goal is to give me and my 4 yr old some brushless experience.
I'm was very experienced so I've got knowledge.
Can anyone give me a brushed wind comparison with the brushless?

the cheap reventon combos are great. easy to use and id be amazed if you need any faster than an 8t?

Sometimes.
I'm no expert, but I know some motors give a Kv value rather than a motor turn. The Kv is the ratio of rpm at a certain voltage I think (my understanding therefore is you multiply the Kv by the voltage running at (8.4v for a 2s lipo) and this gives you the max rpm.
I am happy to be shot down or corrected by those really in the know however

Not sure how to convert between turns and Kv, but the higher the Kv the higher the top speed but the lower the torque (so slower acceleration), likewise the lower the turn, faster the motor, the lower the torque

do you have a link to the one you are looking at? like the other chap said an 8t motor is more than fast enough... probably go for a 8 or 9t motor/esc combo would be fine.... i remember back in the day there was a big difference between single/double/triple/quad turn motors that you could really notice but in my limited amateur experience in running modern 2wd buggys just grab the best deal you can get on something like a 8 /9 /10 t motor with esc and you will be fine. in addition with the new tech you can add extra speed /punch via programming the esc if you feel you need a bit more speed etc... i was completely lost with it all when trying to get my head around it after a 20 yr gap.

thats a sensorless motor combo ... from what i understand its best to try and fins a sensored combo.... i know the reinvention r combo is sensored. the sensor lead is an extra cable that runs from the speedo to the motor and some how helps controll the motor running correctly.

Something like that would be perfect. Or choose something else they sell, they also sell lipos which are very popular.

For what it is worth, I am just going to say that I bought 3 of the hobbyking combos (think I bought with 17.5t motors) for my 3 kids. All 3 speedos have given up ghost, but they were quite a bit cheaper than the link above - pretty sure they were on,y ~£25 each for ESC and ~£20 for motor?
Have since switched to the reventon r esc which has so far been reliable.
If the hobbyking combo is £61 plus postage I'd go for the £64 combo from MB models as the postage is free.
Also, My only problem with a speed passion ESC was replaced by Schumacher (who import them) so back up is also good

Im running the turnigy trackstar gear from HK, yes it was cheap but its programmable, how useful it is I dont quite know as Im new, but I can see it does actually make changes to the motor performance.

The sensored skyrc cheetah combos are good value at £45 on eBay.

I've heard good things about the turnigy gear and the motors and lipos I've had have been great. The hobbyking stuff I had a problem with was the
X-Car (I think that is the name?) 45A ESC.
Really easy to use and set up with little programme card, but just didn't last long

+1 for the Turnigy Trackstar stuff. I now have 4 of the GenII 120A Esc's that are fully programmable (with the additional card). At the moment a combo works out at about £75 from the UK warehouse. Not had a failure yet in over a year of running them.

Like for like the higher end branded motors have more grunt but the selection of available flavours of motor means you can just go a wind higher to get the same return. Oh and they're only £23.67ea for any wind....
