rear world conversion for rb5
 

Hi,

Does anyone has a pic for rear "world" conversion for rb5 ?

I know that the arm is 2mm longer. However, does the overall width of the rear wheel increase by 4mm ? if so, will I get the same effect by having a wider rear hex.

no you won't have the same effect at all since the longer arms change the suspension geometry, there are also new rear hubs.

What difference do the longer arms make?

The main effect of the longer arms is, by the resulting geometry changes, to actually reduce the pressure at the contact patch of the tires as the car rolls through the corners. This in turn helps the rear end rotate progessively and consistently through the turns.

The reason Kyosho have gone longer arms on the rear of the RB5 and shorter on the ZX5-SP / FS is that the RB5 had such a locked in rear end that it was hard to get the back end to rotate at all without setting the car up generally loose where as the ZX5 had little rear end and would try and turn up it's own wing mounts!


I've tried lots of different combinations of rear arms & hubs and found that it is not really possible to improve (using off the shelf Kyosho parts) over where the cars have currently ended up.

It is a shame that the rear arms and hubs are not common between the two cars though as obviously that means you need to carry twice as many spares!

I just bought the UMW510-kit, and put it on the car. just curious about the rear hubs that was included "um519" what difference does they make compared to the kit-ones ?

I saw on the factorysupport on kyoshoamerica.com that the um519hubs are not listed if you want to buy your parts lose.

and........damn, the velvet rearshocks are....porn-ish:thumbsup:

UM519 IS available ..... I have some and have had them ages!!!

They are a slightly different grade of plastic and only have the one lower mounting hole ..... basically they took a part that broke VERY rarely and mad sure it wouldn't break at all ... ever.

The Kyosho cars are built like brick-5h1t houses these days!!!

Yes, they are available but they are not listed in the link for "worlds upgrade" so they do the same as the stock ones but look diffrent then...

Thanks for the input, yeah great car. Been running mine since early -07 rebuild the diff and one turnbuckle in the rear only that got care :)

so what benefits can be seen with the new rear end on the track? and what types of track is it best for?

my main question is: Would it be worth buying when racing on uk tracks, mainly indoors?

i see the upgrade comes with velvet shocks? is there any difference in dimensions or is it just is it the standard shock with the velvet coating? and is there a part number for the front shocks in velvet? (better to have matching shocks if im buying the rears)

Well I did a back to back test at Worksop round 2 and the new rear end was defo much better. It made the car more stable in the sweepers, and gave it more steering at low speed. At that point my car was very good indeed, but that was with old 3700s in it and I needed an update. Since going to Lipo I can't find that balance again. The only place where the car was good since I went to lipo was the Petit RC race on primafelt carpet.

have you tried adding additional wieght to bring it back to the weight it was when you ran nimh's or tried a softer shock setup?

And a softer motor Fabs to compensate the extra power. :confused:

He's only running a Corally 12t anyway, maybe its like the Phi and you should just sack lipo off!;)

how much is the new rear end btw? so is it worth having...?

Only?! :bored: What do you normally run 3.5t brushless/7t brushed motors?! 12t is equivalent maybe a 7.5 brushless!

yeah 7.5 thats why i said 'only'. I ran an 11t Peak motor in my 2wd at Worksop and i was being eaten alive on the straight, it'll be a 6.5 losi in mine when i get the speedo!

Well I have added weight to the car for this worksop but as there is no room under my lipo it's not really located under the pack so weight balance isn't quite the same. I have a carbon battery strap on its way which is supposed to be thinner and allow me to put lead under the pack. hopefully I can get the near missing 150g and get the car's balance as it was.

Fabs, lead under the lipo will make a massive difference. But you shouldn't have a problem fitting weight under there with the origional strap? I run Core RC which are very chunky and they fit ok :confused:

Well there is no space at all under my Platinium edition 2.

Yep ..... was great!!! Easily the best 2wd car there .... just I let it down with my driving! Still TQ's though, but not representative as none of the "fast boys" were running 2wd that day. Still think I might have been in with a shout at the A on that day though as the car was dialled!!!!
