Soldering irons
Can anyone recommend a good soldering iron for 1/10 electric R/C? What's the minimum Watt rating to go for? The soldering iron I used on micros just won't work for 1/10 brushless motors..:bored:

Best soldering iron in the world :p used it for 2 years does everything from small wiring to cells easy peasy. A |
Yeh i use the same thing as ash just a different case lol, really good iron, solders cells easyyy and is just as good for doing smaller stuff :eh?:
|
you want a good soldering iron thats 60 to 100 watts, i'd say 70 or 80watt is about perfect for motors & batteries and most other rc solder jobs. The weller irons are really good like the one in the link above
|
Once again, voucher for the weller 80W, very very good. Wire is fairly heat resistant too :p
|
i use an Antex 100W
available for under £15 on ebay ;) |
I had a 40W but have since bought a gas powered iron and really pleased with it. No plug to worry about, gets hot pretty quick and has a bullet tip for very precise soldering.
|
all depends on where your soldering, how much your going to do, and how much you want to spend
|
Thanks for the replies. 80W Weller sounds good, although a gas version sounds handy. Hope to shop shortly!:)

What about the Wasp soldering iron. 12v and the best one I have ever used. Wasp is now owned by Spec racing and a good investment, doesnt take too long to warm up from your power supply or 12v battery. Comes with a long life tip as well so no need for a replacement.
|
Which tip do you guys use on the weller for the smaller wires?
I have the same iron which is ace, but gets soo hot I woundn't let it near anything fine |
I use Antex too - always been pleased with them. Had various gas ones at work where i dont always have power handy and never been that overjoyed with their performance. I tried gas irons from Blue Point and Draper.
