Grab a 3G dongle, I use one out and about and as back up at home if power goes down, a laptop battery isn't much use if router is off:thumbdown:
£7.50 a month for 5Gb ain't bad

£7.50 for a 5gb fair usuage sounds very good, but who is offering that?

Standard pricing right now is £15 pcm with a 3gb allowance. Just curious as i work in the industry!

Virgin are cack. Very unreliable service with lots of out time and the cheeky swines make you use an expensive tech support line to even report that something is wrong:mad:

I switched to sky last year and they are great ;)

emtee 02-01-2009 07:03 PM

Sky are the dogs... 18months I've been with 'em... and ne'er a server prob... reasonable price too, especially if you take the phone package as well...the netgear wireless router is a bit tempremental sometimes... but I think it is mostly the position of the dongle...

purpletimbo 02-01-2009 07:19 PM

moneysavingexpert.com link to quidco who linked to 3 gave £7.50 for 5Gb, I wasn't asking twice just clicked and went for it
18 month contract, only upfront fees were £1.95 next day postage:thumbsup:

jimmy 02-01-2009 08:25 PM

A wireless single would be good for doing some stuff, but imnot sure about an 18 month contract

Virgin are just incompetent and dishonest. I can't be bothered to list the series of lies but everyone you speak to comes out with a different excuse an tries to blame it on something else, like your hardware or cache or Trojans - bollocks.
So I'm in a pub with free wifi this time. :(

There is vodka here:blush:

I have three or four race reports I need to upload but can't at the moment

rcracer 02-01-2009 08:47 PM

Not sure if it would help but what about a pay as you go dongle ? dont know how much your uploading would zap the usage and we could give donations

actually not as bad as you might think, will post more tomorrow if anyone is interested. btw that offer with 3 is a cheque back deal, so not as good as you may have thought, as well as being connected to the worst network for coverage in the uk. also watch the fair use policy if you exceed the usuage they bill at about £2 per meg.

purpletimbo 03-01-2009 03:54 AM

Mine's not cheque back, I hate those things, it's a straight £7.50 a month direct debit, and with 5Gb I can surf freely enough, got the home machine for high downloads, it is when I am out and about with my netbook it comes into it's own.Has helped with power going down at home though, laptop is no use without a router.

After 2 days of Internet virgin dropped the ball again and I'm at maccies with my iPod - makes running a website pretty hard :(

ashleyb4 07-01-2009 09:29 PM

I am with sky also, no probs and I have the top broadband conection for £10 a month unlimited :thumbsup:

Jonesy 07-01-2009 10:17 PM

I've recently transfered over to Virgin from SKY as I was having the complete opposite to you guys. SKY were treating me awfully on the TV front and the Internet was 50/50 at best. Virgin have been fine with me so far (touch wood) and everything is working as it should

Northy 07-01-2009 10:19 PM

I'm on a virgin now and it's ace :p

I have the most basic sky net service and it is faster and more reliable than the premium Virgin service ever was.

In theory the virgin hardware (cable) should have the advantage, but the service / company is so poorly ran. The reality is (and any virgin employees we have on here may wish to correct me on this) that there is still wide variation between the ex Telewest areas (good) and the ex NTL areas (complete garbage).

jimmy 08-01-2009 09:46 AM

I'm ex NTL and it's indeed complete garbage - this company should be closed down.
