newbie

Can someone advise me on what is a shagged diff! As I've now stripped it and thought it needed replacing then to my newbie stupidness didn't know which bits might need changing?
When I rota the diff clockwise/anti together it feels smooth ish so how do I know if it ok.

Its a ball diff.

Sounds like you've tightened it up too much. Have you stripped the T nut?

If you've run it too tight, then you'll have likely worn the thrust race, and possibly scored the diff rings and maybe flatspotted the balls.
Rings can be flipped and or sanded, or replaced. Balls and thrust race can also be replaced. I'd crack it open to check if you have killed the t-nut or bolt.

I recon you've had your slipper far too tight, so the diff has taken the stress.

Thanks for info....slipper at last race was slipping so tightened it up,then I thought the diff was slighty loose so half a turn seem to make Car run smoother...
Have opened up t nut looks fine when rebuilting was grease is best to make diff last longer Cheers again neal so helpful pal.

Car is a B4, but the principles are the same.
