Which is the best lipo? and what TC?
 

im starting to race TC again and since i started last time lipos have became huge i will be running a 10.5t brushless set up and i was woundering which would be the best lipo to suit my set up out of these 3:

ovisouly i thought the most expensive will be better but i noticed the diffrent c's one is 25c one is 30c could anyone explain what this is??

also is there a TC that anyone would recomend price is not a issue im looking for a pro spec kit, i dont know what to get as there is so much choice lol.

I would wait until the proper 09 cell list is published before buying any polymer batteries. The first pack on your list looks good and I believe I know who manufactures it in China (but I am not sure it will be legal for 09).

Looks like they have side exit wires, which is frowned upon - i.e VERY unlikely to be legal for 09.

I agree on the wire statement this raises some interesting points:

We are so used to soldering 4mm 'corally' tubes to cells that the problems with wires or integrated tubes are being overlooked.

Wires are a pain.. they might chaff or their insulation melt if the pack is short circuited. The wires cannot be replaced easily on assembled hard packs. Tamiya type connectors cannot be used so either Deans or tubes have to be attached. Deans are probably better than using tubes which stand a greater chance of being short circuited (even if correctly dressed in heatshrink tube).

Integrated 4mm tubes seem to be causing problems already, most likely not to their design but because the male parts wear out and this leads to a high resistance joint which causes heat build up and localised melting of the case around the female tube. I have heard lots of reports of this across the RC forums; again, you cant easily repair this.

Of course batteries made from NiMH cells and their soldered / open frame construction have many disadvantages, but I think we are only just starting to understand the problems we face with Lithium polymer pack construction for RC cars.

i run lrp 5300's in my Tc5R.
Lipo: the lrp lipo's have integrated corally tubes and i've had no probs (not used them for long)
TC: the ae parts are cheap, all tc's are 99% the same so its just pure driver/setup's speed

i like to run the same car as one of my mates so we can compare setups,
i wouldn't go buying a car you dont know anything about or dont know anyone with one

trakpower 3600 is proving popular in tc

as said wait for the brca list to avoid extra expendature if you can. having said that as you are doing tc racing there is a 08 tc lipo list so any from there and the higher the c rating the better. as for cars, have a look at your local club to see what is going well, having said that the tamiya has just won the worlds. at my local track the xray looks very good and they have just released the 09 which looks a very good piece of kit ;)

I've been using a trakpower 4900 since Feb 2007 and it's still going strong. I started with an xray t2r, then converted it to a 007 and am now running a 008.

how long do they last???

how often are you going to use it?

just for club racing about 2-3 times a month :D

until the middle of this year it was the only Lipo i had, and that was running 6 club meets a month (4 runs per meet)

24 top up charges (not full cycles) a month for about 15 months.

I now have another two lipos which I'm also using, but I simply rotate all three.

I should add that I've always (from day one) balance charged the batteries. I know this isn't strictly necessary, but it's part of my routine now so I take no notice of it.
