Just remember there is some gash ones about so as always you pay for what you get.

try
www.trustedreviews.com
for some decent reviews of most current sets.

Plasma will tend to have the better picture quality, but they do eat electricity more than LCD.
LCD you can get half decent full HD sets for low money now, but for a decent full HD plasma it will cost you a little more. normal HD plasma are pretty cheap though.

LCD do still struggle with rainbow effect and motion blur, as well as black levels compared to plasma. To get a decent LCD that minimises these issues you will have to spend a bit more than average. Pretty much all LCD have a dynamic backlight now which can take some getting used to.

Plasma all the way mate:) Go for a LG pg6000/6010 I got the 50" for £720
delivered from Dixons online. Can't fault it.

plasma gives much better picture for movies games has a higher colour pallet and they look more natural, blacker blacks etc, i own both and plasma is in a different league running Hi Def material.
And the best thing, most people and shops try to push you to a LCD which means you get a better deal on a plasma.:woot:
check this site out. OH and dont bother going for full 1080p Hi Def you wont notice the difference unless your sitting 4 feet away watching a 50" Nothing is broadcast in full 1080p

was looking at the LG make seem very reasonably priced compared to others

anybody got a samsung tv if so what do you think to it ??

rcluke 21-12-2008 01:35 PM

i have always liked LCD :D

paulc 21-12-2008 01:46 PM

anybody had problems with "image burn" on there plasma tv's

AndyF 21-12-2008 02:06 PM

have you tried CRT yet?

No bluring from motion, No back light problems, cost a fraction of LCD/Plasma and best of all if you keep to around 28" no need for HD just to make it watchable. :p

Alfonzo 21-12-2008 02:32 PM

You're right - CRT tv's are the best picture quality by far. Some of the LCD's are truly shyte. I was working on an (unassociated) project with one of the lead electrical engineers behind the devlopment of LCD tv technology, I asked him what tv he had - CRT of course! He reckons the LCD picture is crap too. We had a laugh about this.

plasma all the way, got a lg 52"PX there awsome miles better picture quality than LCD,worth the extra dosh,

90dug 21-12-2008 04:03 PM

I have both but the plasma wins hands down.

got LG 50" great t.v

wacattack 21-12-2008 04:04 PM

Depends what you mainly intend on using it for. If you mainly use gaming consoles or watch animated films then LCD. If on the other hand you mainly use your TV for films and sport then Plasma is the way forward

Id recommend this...

The cheap ones in the supermarkets are the bottom of the range models without as many pictures and perhaps not as good picture quality. The model numbers look very similar but the letter on the end will be different, that denotes how high up in the range it is.

just upgraded to a 42 inch toshiba lcd, full 1080p ( ps3 and an upscaling dvd player ) and compared to my old 32 inch sony wega ( top of the line crt from 4 yrs ago ) its fantastic especialy as it was £550.

I did look at plasma but in my price range and max telly size I could fit in the living room nothing came close to the toshiba sound is a bit off but I have a full av system with a powered sub that shakes the whole house if required :)

its personal prefrence tbh anything over 46 inches plasma is probably better, I saw a 50 inch set that had amazing pic quality but at £2500 thats a bit mutch :woot:

Paul, what are you going to watch on it? That's the first question we should ask.

If you have an HD tv and you don't provide it with a HD signal, it can look proper gash (as Danneth would say).

I got a 42" 1080p Panasonic plasma about 12 months ago after reading a few copies of What Hi fi - Sound and Vision. The only better screen at the time was a Pioneer but it was big £.

If you can stretch to it, Sky HD is superb
