How long should I leave lipos in salty water?

I'm disposing of a few old lipos. How long should I leave them in salt water?I have them in there a couple of days and the water is pretty murky now.

Normally until they stop bubbling...if you can see them..! I left mine for about 10 days..

Its real important you fully discharge before putting into salt water.
That done about 2 weeks depending on the Saline solution.

Thanks chaps, why do they need to be fully discharged first?

Out of interest, what's done with the water after this process?

Drink it?

Hydrakermit7 22-07-2015 09:05 AM

Lol @ drink it!

Dispose of it in the garden if you haven't got pets e.c.t, it can be harmful to the environment so don't put it down the toilet of anything like that, neither on your moms/partners plants e.c.t. They will kill you!

When I did mine, I didn't discharge them, and they were fine, mine had cracked cases where they had swole, they also had 2 5mm terminals going through the lipo (positive and negative).

I left them in a mop bucket submerged in salt water for about a week, covered the bucket up with a old wooden shelf. Make sure you put the polarity's in the water last, so basically drop the lipos gently into the water with the negative and positive holes going in last. This is the safest way I have been told and found out how to get rid of swollen/old lipos.

HTH!

Reason I ask is we have over 300 old lipos and are looking for somewhere to dispose of them properly. On this scale I doubt we could just lose the remaining water in a hole in the garden. :(

300!... Wang em off the end of Brighton pier and hope nobody sees you ;)

Agreed nick!

Just chuck the lipos in the bin and the water in the garden or down the drain outside? That's what I did :D
