skimming brushed motor coms

is this worth doing, my motor has lost a lot of performance and the com is dirty. is there a way of doing this at home without a lathe?

You could just remove the armature and use some sandpaper to clean up the comm and brushes, or if you have an old commstick? It is a bit heath robertson compared to using a lathe but needs must.

Noooooo!!! :)

Better to leave it as it is than do that. Clean it with motor cleaner and a cloth to see how much of the dirt you can remove. Try it again and see if it is better. Next step is to replace the brushes and see if that perks it up. If neither works then you must true the comm on a lathe and fit new brushes. HTH :)

Most model shops will skim your armature for a couple of quid. Failing that send it to me, I dont mind doing it and mailing it back if you cover postage.

Firstly, don't use sand paper. If nobody on her can do it for you, find a machine shop local to you and ask them if they can do it for you. Most of them will just do it for a few quid.

Yea don't use sand paper was it wont give u a even surface and will be ruff so you won't get the good connection you want and cause friction that's a bit ye ha cowboy

If your down south try demon power products as he might have a leath as he has gear from years ago

Well in my defense I did say it was a rough approach and if needs must but certainly not the right way to go about it.
