Which Lipo for cat sx. 3600 or 4900

I need to buy me a lipo now....

Iv been recommended the trakpower 3600...

However iv now been told that in certain circumstances, that i might be better going for the 4900 as it is better at providing a constant surge of power and maintaining it. Iv heard of stories whereby cells expanding with the strain if used with powerful brushless motors causing more drain.

Now im no expert but as funds are tight i need to get a lipo that needs to be trouble free.

Any advice , or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Col.

Larger packs are better. As you say they can safely supply more current for longer.

However plenty of people use the Trakpower 3600mAh with powerful motors, and I have yet to see any problems. so if funds are tight, save your money and get the 3600mAh. At £54.99 they are very reasonable.

the 3600 can be purchased in a 30C version whereas the 4900 is "only" 25C

Either pack will have bags of power and duration. Ive got two TP 3600 30C packs and they come highly recommended. not used them in my CAT as yet but im not anticipating any problems :)

The CATSX was designed around the CORE 5000mAHr Lipo.

But I have run the TPower 3600 and this works fine, you just need to adjust the Lipo brace and weigh the car accordingly.

Hope this helps.

I use the 4900's :D

Yeah thanks guys.

I think its going to be the 3600's then with 30c....

Hmm as its Lipo im going to buy new corally tubes as well, the cheap imported ones that i have might not give the current flow reqd with lipo and they are not as tight as what they used to be.:bored:

Ps - is it a perfect fit, or do i need some additional brackets or lugs to secure.

Thanks,

Col.

Hmmm but bigger is always better lol..

But the 25C 4900 can supply more current, as it is the capacity x c rating or something like that.

Anyway, I have both - here's what it says on them:

4900 = 125A Cont

3600 = 108A Cont

Yeah thats what iv heard.. bigger packs can supply more oomph and you are putting less strain on the pack..

The only thing im getting ready to get flamed here , is i like to run fast motors and i turn them down on my tx throttle curve and have no probs runinng low winds. So do you reckon the 4900 would be better..

Hmm thrown a spanner into the works now lol.

What is it for the 3600 guys?

is that even less amps continuous lol..

Northy 11-12-2008 10:26 PM

I don't know tbh, I've only ever run the 4900 in the SX.

However I've run both in the RC10 and didn't tell a difference - I guess that shows how good the 3600 is!!!! :woot::woot:

Did that help? Probably not!

I must be the only Cat driver that uses a 3200 Trakpower. Bought them out of desperation. Will this be the reason why my car seems to be crap when everybody else says there cars are excellent?

If i get heavier cells will i feel any benefit? At the York Regional my Cat was 30G underweight. I weighted it up to exactly the limit. Any ideas?

Chris,

With a 4900 mine is quite a lot over minimum weight - so maybe :eh?:

I have to stress that ive not used my 3600 30C packs in my CAT. However, i did use both my 4900 25C and 3600 30C in my B4FT.

The 3600 felt more punchy but i may well be wrong.

I also had two 3200 20C lipos. I can tell you for certain that a 30C 3600 felt a world more punchy than a 20C 3200 in my 10.5 Tourer.

Northy always beats me at Worksop :p so go for the 4900 :woot: ;)

Just to confuse you further !

Colinevan 11-12-2008 10:33 PM

Aaarggghh LIPOLIPOLIPO... The mrs is going mad lol..

Come back 1700 scrs.. all is forgiven lol.

Hmmm what do you reckon then.. 4900 or 3600 lol..

chris68nufc 11-12-2008 10:36 PM

Sorry to butt in. Does anybody know the weight difference between 3200 and the bigger Trakpower cells. I use my Cat on a very slippy floor and its awfull. I might try the bigger cells to see what difference it makes. Im all excited again!!

Try some lead under it first maybe? :eh?:

I don't have a 3200 - but I could weigh a 4900 tomorrow if no one else does first.

G

Rich D 11-12-2008 10:51 PM

3200 20C is 193 grammes

4900 25C is 268 grammes

Over to you G ....... :woot:

Colinevan 11-12-2008 11:00 PM

Right iv now had a read of GLYPOs very handy guide on lipo

http://www.glypo.com/guides/lipo/

And iv read that teh 4900 can do 25c.

So with a powerful 4.5r or 5.5r in there this appears to be the best combo for max cont current and also better for the pack.

Am i right in saying this...

lol
