That Lipo Saddle Thing...

Due to the way these things go, and the fact we have had other threads discussing the rules themselves, before I start can I suggest we keep this one strictly on topic!? Anyways:

Just wondered if anyone knew yet of any saddle Lipo's out or imminent which fit the BRCA specs?

I might need another battery, and ideally would wait for a BRCA list if I can get through, but at a minimum looking to buy something that fits the specs and is therefore likely to be approved??

I'm talking dimensions/capacity specs etc!

Just buying a pack that fits in the dimensions does not mean it will automatically be added to the EB list, just like there are many more nimh cells available that fit the dimensions but aren't on any EB list. The only way to be sure a pack is to wait until the list comes out.

What Terry said.

I don't know of any in the dimensions anyway.

Could you tell me what the BRCA LiPo dimensions are please?

Thanks,
Jon.

Bungleaio 09-12-2008 09:34 PM

Length: 139.0mm.
Width: 47.0mm
Height: 23.5mm

This is for stick packs, saddles have to fit within these dimensions when placed end on end.

blitzboy 09-12-2008 10:39 PM

total lenght of two trakpower 3200 is 142mm so what s 2 mm but well have to wait and see won t we

Obviously it aint no guarantee, but if it's on the touring car list, then that has to give it a better chance than if it's not...
Hold out as long as you can until the o/r list is announced is the only sure way though!

Northy 09-12-2008 11:02 PM

My advice to anyone is not to buy anything until the list comes out - as there might be some on the TC list that are not legal. ;)

the tc list doesn't have any saddle packs unless the rules are ammended im not sure if saddles can meet that critera

samd 09-12-2008 11:14 PM

Ordered some trakpower 3200 a week ago - not arrived yet should i cancel them????? . . . .

Read my original post guys, I know meeting the specs doesn't mean it will be on the list, and I said I'd wait ideally, but fact is I'm down to one battery! Next mishap and it'll be a curtailed meeting for me and no more racing till I buy something, surely you agree it's best I try and get something with a chance of making the list if that happens???:thumbsup:

In fact, I am in dire need anyway thinking about it, I run both classes at Worksop (already paid up etc) and wouldn't want to do both on one pack, would have to constntly charge at my chargers max rateage 5A on a 3200 pack, even though TP say its ok I'd rather not, and even then it may not fully recharge in time between runs.

Last winter I got some second hand NIMH to get me through, may do the same but may take a risk (which I know is MY RISK!) on a Lipo that at least fits the specs if they are out there, as I really don't want the hassle of going back to NIMH!!

Anyway, hopefully now you can see why I am asking!!

Northy 10-12-2008 09:07 AM

Dave, have you tried sending your faulty pack back to TrakPower? They have very good customer service ;)

G

DaveG28 10-12-2008 09:52 AM

I will send it back Friday, haven't chance to get to the post before then, and fingers crossed!

mark christopher 10-12-2008 09:54 AM

Nope, I use the TP charger and balancer, normally charge at 3A, every now and again at 5A if in a rush (only because the battery info says that's ok!). This problem has occurred during running, probably a duff male connector I hadn't spotted, although can't be sure!

mark christopher 10-12-2008 01:46 PM

whats the fault melted case? if so contact trakpower they will more than lilly replace th case for you
