Which Car battery to purchase
I am new to the scene ...which 12v car batteries should you purchase to charge your cells from  are there any i should avoid?
any avise would be welcome |
Yes, avoid all car batteries!
Leisure batteries are what you want, like those used on caravans. I've got a 65 amp one and it happily runs two chargers and soldering iron for a day |
not a car battery you want a 12 volt leisure battery from a camping/caravan store and a good 12 volt maintanence charger
|
you need a leisure battery. not a normal 12v car battery. Best place to get them are caravan dealers.
Leisure batteries are designed to give out the power differently to normal car batteries. If you charge from a normal 12v it will die after a few months. If you plan to do full weekend racing then you probably need one around 90a or higher. If it's just for club nights then a 60a would probably be ok. Avoid the halfords ones, quite expensive. You will also need a proper charger for it. |
Thanx Guy's

You definatly need a 12 volt leisue battery and not a car battery. Check with Chris Albert (Albetini) he may be able to help you out with one from Holden's. Otherwise I got my last one from http://www.tayna.co.uk/ although I have got them from the Leisure and Camping place in Blofield who also stock some rather handy boxes to put them in. Anything from about 70 amp hour upwards will be fine for a days racing. I have to admit I prefer the sealed ones as there is no maintenance on them and they seem to last longer. |
I use a fairly hefty duty (Honda Accord Diesel) battery that I got from work on the cheap, running the parts dept had to have a perk somewhere.:)
Its just a a car battery which I keep charged all the time on a ( honda ) maintainer and its been good for 18 months so far.........that'll be the kiss of death. Perhaps its not ideal but its what gets me round. |
Yea i bought a genny this year instead of my 12v really easy no need to charge it just poor the juice in the top.
