Bmax4iii carpet setups
Just got a bmax4iii and looking for some advice on setup
What diff oils and shock oils is a good place to start for carpet and astro ? Cheers |
look at these:
http://www.petitrc.com/setup/yokomo/...gzhou20150405/ http://www.petitrc.com/setup/yokomo/...els2015032729/ Also expect a new setup sheet after the EOS tomorrow. I'm running 600 front shock oil, 400 rear (on astro not carpet). I did run 20k front and 10k rear, but now moved to 30k front and 20k rear, which is great on astro. What's the grip level of the carpet? |
Similar setup on mine, although you may need to limit the front shocks by quite a bit too..
Mine felt awful initially until I added about 7mm of limiters in the front.. |

When you say limiters are you using them to reduce droop?
What do you use, is there a Yokomo part or will any shims do? Cheers Ian |
You can use any shim as long as it fits. Yes, you use them to reduce droop. I don't run a lot of front droop myself. Rear should have a little, this increases traction off-power. This because your car has more suspension travel before it locks itself.

Cheers. I honestly don't know if there are any on mine as I bought it second hand and have only changed oils and not dismantled the shocks. It does seem to have a lot of drop, particularly on the front, and is very edgy turning in on high grip.

Rear droop limiters are to limit down travel to stop drive shafts popping out. build as per kit, 3 limiters from memory. Using two will result in a popped drive shaft.
Car drives like a pig and wants to roll over without many front limiters. I found five to be optimal. There is a Yokomo part code for the limit washers. They actually measure less than 1mm (0.85mm), but generally taken as 1mm each on setup sheets. |
Cheers Neal,
Ross @ MB got the part number for me earlier - for reference its ZC-S308. |

What is everyone doing to increase low speed steering?
It's probably obvious but I've yet to had a front sway or put the lower shock mounts further in. Running on medium, high traction, shorty setup. 60/50wt shock oil, 10k diff front and back. Purple, black springs. Mini pins, trimmed two lines on the edges of the tyre. The fastest guys take this hump diagonally and line up a double and clear it easy. If I take it straight and wide my run up is easy enough to clear the double. I've added a 6th shock spacer but yet to test. Running 2mm rear sway. slipper is 3mm wide The quickest guys are also using wide staggers. |
