will loo run hot

Will loose battery connection cause the motor to run hot?

High resistance will cause heat build up as current passes.

Are you talking about speed passion connectors de-soldering?

Treedudeben 26-04-2015 07:27 PM

Speed passion esc and motor, gearing has been checked and double checked so can rule that out.

The car is an SV2, it's overheated three different motors, a sp 7.5 and two 10.5s

Wires are not hot and the motor connectors are not de soldering.

Could it be a faulty esc?

If its overheating motors like that, I'd guess that you're either undegeared, overgeared or have too much timing/boost/turbo on the motor or ESC and it's nothing to do with the connectors.

Like I say, the gearing has been checked using the speed passion chart and then the chart in the SV2 manual. We have had a number of people check to see that we have got the gear pinion/spur and final drive ratios right. I even run another SV2 with the same set up and that only ever gets warm.

So we think we have narrowed it down to a faulty esc, tomorrow night we will swop the esc and see if the motor still gets hot.

Are the gearbox or wheels binding in any way causing the motor to work harder than it should?

What ESC is it? I've known this happen with speed passion ESC's before

I was talking to someone about this years ago and he said it causes a problem
He was having problems with lrp speedo's

Hi TreeDude Ben

I have also had some overheating with a SP v3 6.5 and a Reventon R SP controller.

It's the first time I've come across the motors getting too hot in all my time in the hobby.

Reading your post it leads me to suspect the controller (ESC). Could you let me know if swapping out yours fixed it? I have a spare Xcelorin here and I could always chuck that in one.

Something's up with mine heat wise too, that's for sure.

I've just looked on speed psi ion website and it says that higher temps are likely with latest reventon r software.

Quote"The new technology with higher performance will have some side effects. Higher performance also will also increase power consumption, increase motor temperatures, and lower the efficiency of the entire system. It is very important to set the programmable items of the ESC appropriately."

Might be an obvious comment, but how are you determining "hot".
Thumb?
Thermal protection on the ESC?
IR temp probe?

One and two are about as inaccurate as it gets, I've seen thumb measured hot motors at only 60 degrees, and the speed passion thermal protection is comical (at least 30 degrees out, if not more. I switch it off)

If it's been measured by an IR probe (or similar) just ignore me.

Hot as in smoke coming out of the motor and de soldering internal parts.

Esc set to 0 deg motor timing and very low punch with 10% drag brake

I'm running a sp reventon pro 1.1 with a sp 7.5t motor in a KF and a sp R with a sp 8.5t motor in a SV2 never had a problem with them getting to hot. A friend of mines running a sp reventon pro 1.1 with a sp 7.5t in an SV2 and its smoked two motors. All gearing set up as per charts and at the lower end of the range. He then swopped the motor for a sp 10.5t and re set the gearing and it smoked that motor as well

No binding and diff swopped for a newer one so as free as it could be.

Esc and motors dropped of at Schumacher for testing

I will let you know the results when my friend gets them back.
