Help Help Help, its driving me up the wall.

Ive got a hpi savage which i use reguarly but for some reason,lately, its constantly blowing the front diff to pieces, first of all it was because th diff gears were old,the next time it went was because my plastic diff casing warped,so i got a metal case,then it was because it was incorrectly shimed,so ive shimmed properly this time, but once again the bl&*dy thing has done it again.:thumbdown:
This is the 4th time its shreded in 2 monthss and i can not seem to work out why!!!!!!!:mad::mad::confused:
Im actually considering buying a diff lock thing just so that i can get rid of the diff all together, but that would greatly reduce the manouverability (how do you spell it?) of the truck
HELP PLEASE!:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

is your center diff working properly?

AmiSMB 04-12-2008 11:43 AM

There is no centre diff on a Savage. I would strip down the whole front end and check all bearings and drive shafts to see if any are binding. Also check to see if there is a problem on the front and rear drive shafts. I do know when I used to race savages that the bevel gears did seem to be made out of cheese!

All my bearings seem to be allright (had them all oiled and cleaned about two days ago) just thought of somthing though, if my slipper is set to tight could the diffs get damaged as i thought only the centre gearbox would go, i did have a bad role the last time i used it but all the other times the diff has broken ussually when im just tuning it up and down my road???????

Well yeah, the slipper is there to protect the transmission, as well as being a tuning aid.

savageman25 04-12-2008 06:12 PM

so what do you reckon my next step should be?

Southwell 04-12-2008 07:05 PM

Check your slipper?

can you reccomend a settng for it as the stock setting is 1 turn out and thats what its at at the moment when it does the diffs

:)Isn't the Savage made by HPI? If so they did do hardened diff gears for the Lightning Stadium Pro truggy that you may still be able to get, sorry I don't know the part number and they may not fit but just an idea.:)
