Carbon Fibre Chassis Thickness

Hi All,

I'm looking at making my own carbon fibre chassis.

If the standard alloy chassis is 3mm thick can I get away with 3mm carbon fibre? Is it that straight forward?

Thoughts appreciated.

Thanks for reading!

The old aftermarket graphite chassis for older cars like the RC10 were .115" thick which is essentially 3mm (.118"). If you've got 3mm, you'll be fine but understand that it'll have different flex characteristics that aluminum.

Hi.
go and see my chassis projects from
ASSOCIATED B5M PROTO TEAM. You will find it from fb.
There is lots of differents chassis types.

Jerzi. 3mm will be more than strong enough IMHO, the carbon/Kevlar chassis plate I made up for my Procat is only 2mm and is nice and strong, (although I'm not racing it).

most of the schumacher carbon fibre 1/10th chassis are 2.5mm thick, and this works well and has about the right amount of flex. 3mm may be a bit stiff.
Beware of the cheap chinese c/f.
