B44.2 gear diff oils

I've just changed my ball diffs for gear diffs in my team associated b44.2 and need advice on what diff oil I should use ? We run on carpet/ polish floor with a few high jumps. Cheers in advance

I use 10k front and 7k rear but mainly for astro. That should be fine for carpet but if you have a lot of slippy I might try 7k front and 5k rear.

Thank u for ur advice, I think there's 10k in the front and 5k in the rear would you suggest changing before I use it

diffs

Are they Durango diffs u put in and are they a direct fit thanx

Ashleygibb 24-01-2015 10:28 PM

There Durango diffs I wasn't paying for new 44.3 ones

There not a direct fit u need to adapt the drive shaft to fit the gear, look on spares for sale and look for a lad called Ben selling some he does the mod and its spot on

Def worth a try as it is a bit of a faff to change oils and it might work well.

Hi, I ran mine with gear diffs for almost a year and found the best balance was 10k in both diffs. I found the car pushed a bit with a lower viscosity oil in the rear than the front.

I tried 7 in the front and 10 in the rear too which was faster again but quite hard to drive with a hot motor.

Ashleygibb 25-01-2015 08:46 AM

I've heard the same about 10k in both diffs, think it's gonna be down to trial and error and the my track changes each week I'll need a good all rounder oil

diffs

Is the conversion hard to do? Or does Ben sell them already done

Ashleygibb 25-01-2015 10:08 AM

I believe there's 2 ways of doing it the first involves drilling and welding the b44.2 drive shafts and the second way is buying the b44.3 drive shafts but best to ask Ben as I've got no experience in doing it I'm just guessing from what I've seen, the actual diffs fit it's deffo worth asking him

A bit of push on the front end makes the car much easier to drive IMO, 10/10 makes it very aggressive. Fine if you have the skills but I didn't!

Can someone explain why putting 10/10 is very aggressive

The car drives through the corner from the rear harder, like it pushes from the rear more. I can see how it could be harder to drive than say 10k, 7k where the feel is more like the front is pulling the car. Sorry I cant be more technical, im speaking purely on how it felt to me :)

Once I had the set up I didnt change anything from track to track other than shock oils and springs. Seemed to work everywhere.

Would you say putting 5k in the rear is pointless

Dkfream 26-01-2015 12:32 AM

I run a 44.3 on carpet and a little slippy polished floor and I run 10k front 7k rear and 500k centre and its spot on

This is just how it felt to me. I started with 10/10 and found when it was very dry and grippy that the car was very twitchy and needed a heavy throttle to get the most out of it which is not really the way I try to drive. I used to use cut staggers on the front to calm the front end down then I wondered about a looser rear diff to sightly reduce the forward drive and increase the lateral grip. Also the tighter front does pull the car out of the corner, you lose a little drive out of the corner but it is much more stable.

I have not driven my 4WD buggy for a bit and might go back to 10/10 on high grip but on med grip 10/7 would be easier and for low grip such as indoor clay I see many in the US are using 7/5 on the B44.3

I no this is personal preference and track conditions etc but is it worth the cost to buy the geared diffs or just run a well built and set up ball diff

Ashleygibb 26-01-2015 01:50 PM

I already have the gear diffs and I don't get on with ball diffs just carnt get them set up right evan after many people trying
