I'm after a new motor for my tamiya grasshopper, is the higher the amount of turns faster or slower, also it needs to be a 540

Tbh a standard stock 27t motor is probably the best motor for it, cars undriveable with anything else. Think DMS has a few in their store room. There are still some available otherwise a 13t brushless motor but you will need to buy an esc as well.

HPI Saturn 27T would be ideal.

I've just discovered that it is a15turn motor that is in my buggy. The ESC is capable of going down to 11T. If I put an 11or12T motor in it would it go any faster or will I need to alter the gearing.

Blimey, when I had a grasshopper it took a 380 motor. How things move on eh?

if you stick a faster motor in it generally you should tweak the gearing go down in pinion size, reduces chance of overheating etc ( please anyone correct me if ive got it wrong way round ). although can you adjust the motor position in the grasshopper to allow for correct gear meshing, i cant remember?
either way if your just doing it for kicks stick an 11 turn motor in it and have fun...but if you want a better chance of controlling the thing go with a 15+ turn motor!

IIRC you could only fit an 18T pinion on a 540 size motor. Even with those standard motors our Grasshoppers' shocks used to be unable to keep the cars under control. Getting an HPI Saturn or Carson Cup Machine will probably be the best for you and your Hopper. ;)

When I was a kid I put a modified motor from my dog fighter (can't remember what turn) in my old Hornet. It was super quick in a straight line but I don't think it was long before the gearbox let go.
