Cougar 2000/95 battery fitment.

Hi All,

Can anyone help with which lipo battery to get to fit in a Cougar 2000/95 team with the xpc chassis. I would love to run this old car again but I think the battery set up was designed for nicads stick or saddle pack.
Just wondered if anyone still uses this buggy and what battery they use which will fit in the chassis without any modification? :)

Hi, think lipos are standard sizes? im running saddle lipo in my 95 team. not sure what the xpc chassis is though? if it helps i took the nicad tray out and put a layer of foam in the bottom and then cut down the top of a battery strap thing so it was flat on one side and that hold the battery in securely. would think this would work fine for normal 2000 as well. batteries are a bit snug but secure.

Thanks Chris24jt, The xpc was the extra pitch control chassis upgrade from the standard 2000 to the 95 spec. It was slightly longer and had the side pods removed to allow for the upswept undertray. Think I will have to take some lipo dimensions and make a tem-plate out of wood and check how they fit in the chassis before purchasing.

There are lipo packs shaped like a 6 cell stickpack. If your car accepts a stickpack, these LiPos should fit.

A lipo the same shape as a 6 cell stick pack should fit perfectly.

Looks like it should fit well with the ridges in the bottom, thanks for the post Bretts.

Take it from me the curved edge lipos are about 10mm longer than an old nicd battery, which is a pain in the bum for me as I have a few vintage cars and still trying to find the best option. Shorty batteries go in well that said.

The 2000 is an arse to get a modern lipo in even a sadle lipo.
in your position I would get a shorty pack

DanB4 22-01-2015 03:24 AM

I use a shorty in my xpc chassis'd Cougar 2000 '95 Team - just use a piece of foam to fill the gaps.

Spils77 23-01-2015 12:24 PM

Thanks for the info DanB4, I must admit I did not even think about using a shorty. Do you have to mod the battery strap in any way?

OptimaFan 23-01-2015 01:45 PM

I also use this one for my Mid runners: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...Lipo_Pack.html

Shorter and overall smaller than a hardcase. You need to add some protection yourself, but even then it will still be smaller than a regular 6 cell stickpack. Here's an example of a pack installed in a vintage runner, that doesn't see much offroad action, so I didn't cover the full pack with protective material:

And the battery outside the car:

Thanks for the reply's. just measured up a shorty and it will fit fine so I think this will be the best option. I think the pack your using there OptimaFan might be a little bit tight trying to squeeze it past the top deck on the 2000 and the wires at the one end may cause me some probs, but thank you for the info and the pics :)

OptimaFan 27-01-2015 05:46 PM

The pack on my pics is shorter and thinner than a 6 cell NiMh pack, so it may fit better than it looks. I chose this pack because full length ones tend to have the wires rubbing against the inner side of the body shell, and even push it outward.

never had any problems putting lipo in any cougar 2000......
