ESC comparison
 

Hi,

I am currently running a Turnigy Gen II 120a esc with a SP6.5t motor in my cat K1. It seems to be OK runs nice and quick and is pretty smooth. I have been offered a Novak GTB esc and told this would make it quicker?

Is that actually realistic? The trackstar is quite programmable with the user interface but the Novak doesn't seem to have the same facilities (unless someone knows otherwise) so would it benefit me or is it just the name Novak that people are assuming makes it better?

Any opinions?

It won't make it any quicker at all. Get the program box you your turnigy and add some boost or turbo if you need to go any quicker, or mess with the breaking or punch controls (you may already have this box?). I suspect it's quick enough already. That Gen2 is actually a newer speedo design and is basically (like lots of others) a hobbywing clone, built to a price. They work great, and at a good price point, and if you get a good year out of it (you should if treated well, like anything else) then that's a win. If you are not running specific class that requires a Blinky verified, BRCA approved speedo then carry on and run it for your club racing.

The Novak is a brand name, and of an older design (again a hobbywing derived unit). It's more difficult to program, doesn't have the punch, breaking, turbo and boost controls of the turnigy, and won't make your car any faster or smoother than what you have. Save your money! :thumbsup:

Yeah toby as neal has suggested , keep the turnigy esc , its newer and better spec'd than the novak , plus your car has the speed as it is !! , see ya sunday!!:thumbsup:

You'd have to be driving a really really badly matched ESC/motor for a change to the ESC to make a noticeable difference.

Or an utterly rubbish, cheap, nasty ESC.

None of which describes what you have.

Only benefit to some brand name ESCs is more programmability or a nicer interface, which you've already got covered with the turningy.

That's a brilliant a response and totally helpful. I really appreciate your response. I do have the programming unit for the turnigy and there a ton of settings for brake, turbo, boost etc. I need to get out there and play with se settings.
