Gearing difference between 6.5L and 6.5R?

Im currently running 23/81 on my 6.5L, but would there be any real difference in gearing if I was to put a 6.5R into my S2?

I don't change gearing between the two.

Cheers Dan,

I love the simple things in life lol

I have to agree with Dan-o here...
What is the point of changing motor to suit conditions/driveability, if you then cock things up by changing pinions? I would say that a 6.5L would get hotter indoors though, because it has thinner wire in the can. i.e. more resistance (to give a smoother feel). This is one thing that the Nosrams have over the Novaks, is that they can get smaller rotors to give less torque, but with same size wire.

Mark,

You NEED to have a go on my 6.5L sometime. I wouldnt ever sell thay motor if you offered me treble its value! Its gotta be the most versitile motor ive ever owned and even when I ran 25/81 at MK GP it never got 'hot'. 87'f maximum all weekend.

The R is for my T4, the L lives in the S2.

You can get different rotors for the Novaks too :)

But a smaller rotor increases temps too, as it's harder for the windings to turn the rotor due to less magnetism - or something like that

it's cause there is a larger air gap, and allows the rotor to spin faster (allegedly) :woot:

The air gap is what makes them harder to turn, but they spin faster due to being lighter ;)

You can get a larger than standard rotor for Novaks but not a smaller one i.e. the Novaks come with the rotor you want in them for off road but can change to one with even more torque if required.

So to confirm if you buy a Novak motor you don't have to bugger around buying different rotors for off road ;)
