3D Printed CAT XLS Bumper
I can't fully claim all the credit for this as it was printed by a company in Bristol for me, but it was my CAD model etc....
[IMG]http://i1061.photobucket.com/albums/...930_214750.jpg The bumper on the left is the original. The repro bumper is on the right and needs some radii tweaks but it fits! What do you think. I just quickly offered it up to an XLS and it fits! Pictures to follow tomorrow. Regards, Nick Morgan. |
strength
I think 3d printing is awesome and so many uses, but I am curious about the materials and if there strong enough for this sort of job?
|
Hi,
The material is ABS P430 and this is the first off prototype to check against the real part and to validate the 3D model. I have got a few dims incorrect but the next version should be nearer the original part. Strength wise I will have to give it a go. A run outside with an XLS.... can't wait! I'd rather snap a 3d printed part rather than the almost rare T153 bumper. Regards, Nick. |
I finally have fitted the first off 3D printed part and it fits like a glove...
http://i1061.photobucket.com/albums/...014_214053.jpg After the fitment, I noticed that I had got some of the dimensions wrong and so I got out my digital vernier and checked some dimensions. Next was to model version 2 and this time include a logo. http://i1061.photobucket.com/albums/...014_215740.jpg and from another angle: - http://i1061.photobucket.com/albums/...014_215752.jpg I've also had a pro cat version made too (still to be fitted to a pro cat): - http://i1061.photobucket.com/albums/...014_220259.jpg It's a shortened version of the CAT XLS bumper sharing the same fitment holes etc., so should fit first time. Now that I have had version 2 of the CAT XLS produced, I shall fit and run the version 1. I have tried bending the new part and it is surprisingly flexible (like the part it is to replace). looking good!
Any chance of sharing the 3D data for the procat one? i can then look into getting a few printed on our machine or better still vac casted up at my work? |
Robin_C,
I've sent you a pm. Regards, Nick. |
Hi are you selling these please?
Jiffy |
More progress - I've fitted the procat version 1 bumper to a procat: -
http://i1061.photobucket.com/albums/...107_093538.jpg Jiffy (- sorry for taking my time to reply), yes, we are trying to set this up. Eventually you will be able to get one. I was asked for some T079's for the Schumacher CAT's, CAT XL, CAT XLS by peakey: - I have had some T079's printed and I have finally got round to getting them fitted. This photo shows the 3D printed part fitted and the original (T079) part by the tyre http://i1061.photobucket.com/albums/...107_100317.jpg Other shots: http://i1061.photobucket.com/albums/...107_100326.jpg And: http://i1061.photobucket.com/albums/...107_100336.jpg Regards, T_2 |
