New here, I have a mi4lp and I rebuilt the rear diff, but there
Is a little sideways play ?

Are there meant to be shims for this

You mean once the diff has been built and is sitting in the diff housing? Yes there will be some play, you will need some 10mm ID shims to remove most of the play, Schumacher sell them U2761
