B5M Best astro tyres

Hi

Whats the best tyre combo front and rear for astro???

alex97 01-08-2014 06:10 PM

Ballistic white's on the rear and yellow lp cut staggers on the front.

I've now use Schumacher yellows more now as they are harder wearing and the grip is much better.

Yellow Schumacher mini spikes on the rear work well too. The white ballistics are great when they are new, but I found they lost their best after a couple of rounds of qualifying.
Stagger ribs or cut staggers on the front, but cut them down so they sit on the rim. It'll help keep the steering a bit more consistent. Yellow compound works well.

So, pretty much the same as every other buggy out there :)

I've not run it very much in the wet, but green mini spikes worked well up at southport on a fairly soggy track....

Astro tyres B5m

Racing today at coastal on astro in the wet!
A fellow racer advised cutting my front rims down to make them narrower.
Anyone else doing this??

It is standard practice to cut down the Associated front rims.....they are too wide to take stagger ribs etc..

I have never done this yet but if you ask enough people they will say slims are best so sacrificing a couple of rims has to be worth it.

LP staggers should be run on narrow (i.e. cut) wheels. Takes about 60 seconds with a decent pair of scissors!

Thanks
I will get the scissors out!!!

What about when using Mini Spikes would you do the same??

Aire valley 11-08-2014 07:10 PM

Mini spikes fit ok on the standard front rim but use a medium insert...

I've always been told not to use any inserts in 2wd front wheels??

Cutting ribs down is against brca ruling
You cant tamper with the bead of the tyre or tyre wall

Cut my wheels down tonight
What a difference!!!
I now have loads of steering and the car is now changing direction much quicker

MaxBaker 14-09-2014 05:46 PM

Could someone measure the width of the wheel after it's been cut down for the staggers. I want to run my wheels through the bandsaw at work tomorrow and with need to set the jig :)
