TRF201XR help

Im having a battle trying to drive my TRF201XR.
The Rear end seems to be on ice, the slightest throttle and it breaks loose. Even the Cheap RTR's seem to go better.

Track is low-grip/dusty.
Tires are PL Hotshots, which is the tire of choice at my track

I havnt been able to find a base setting for the XR to start from, either its for the Old trf201 or all you lucky ones with XM/XMW's on high grip tracks.

Any help would be great.

Can you post a setup sheet of what you're running? It'd help a lot to figure out how to get the car to grip. Also, is your track bumpy or smooth, and are there different surfaces throughout the track?

And do you usually drive low grip, dusty tracks only? If so, once you optimized the main parts of the setup (tires, diff+slipper, shocks, link positions, weight/weight distribution), you could consider the following mods and upgrades:

- ESC on top of the battery plate (higher CoG, more grip from body roll).
- Increasing torsional flex on the sidepods and possibly around the gearbox/rear shock tower too.
- Hubs or hangers for 0.5 degrees extra toe-in.
- DB01 rear arms (they have more flex).

I have found this to be good starting point, altought without the front weight. Also if you put the esc on top of the battery, you can try different weight distribution easily.

XR Setup

I recently ran my XR in an endurance race. The car was awesome! Lots of rear traction. Track started a little dusty but developed a blue groove. Set up sheet is as the car came of the track at the end of the day for its final run which was close to 25 minutes.

Earlier in the day I ran the car (as photographed) with Proline Holeshot M3s on the front and Sweep Square Armor Silver on the rear.

I will post a set up sheet very soon!

Setup Sheet

Here is the Setup Sheet. Had trouble reducing size to fit with up load limits! But now have it sorted.

If this setup doesn't work on dusty track with blue groove then it has to be too much power being applied by either over aggressive ESC boost and timing settings or trigger finger.

The car was great and could be driven easily all day. Further more it was on pace with regard to lap times.

Thanks the the replies.

The track as one section which is bumpy at the moment, but general its smooth. Just dry dusty low grip clay (and where I live in Australia is hot and humid)
We do have a 2 champ rounds when they molasses the track.

Was just about to post a setup, but after looking at it closely its not the setup im using.
Im not home for another week, so i'll post one up then.

Aussie Top Force. thanks for post that setup, always good to find another local with the same car!

I change the setup pretty much bang on with yours(apart from springs as they would be abit to hard for the track)
Didnt get to race as we got rained out

See next time im at track if i have any luck

I was going to run TRF Yellow springs rear, but at last minute (night before) changed to TRF Blue. Worked well with the heavier saddle packs. Rear Yellows might be the choice if you are using a lighter shorty pack and or more traction if the track is slippery.

Let us know how it goes when the track dries out?

Are u using a ball diff ?

Kimo 20-08-2014 05:08 PM

Anyone interested in a nearly new TRF201XMW? Only driven 1 day on my local track. Using gear diff, ball diff build but not used. 3 Sets of wheels with it, with 1 set decent and 1 set new tires on it.
Some extra parts going with it, as arms, spur...
