Lazer ZX-5 + brushless: which gear ratio?

Hi mates,
I've a Kyosho Lazer ZX-5 RTR and I'm interested about Losi Xcelorin brushless combo (combined with Trakpower LiPo 2S 4900mAh 25C), particularly the 4.5T: it's a good choice in your opinion? Or the 6.5T is better? On 4.5T the original gear ratio will be ok or I must replace it with new and different spur and/or pinion?
I'll bash on 1/8 buggy tracks.
Thanks!

My prefered combination in my ZX5-SP was always a 6.5 geared about a 23.

Never change it and never really had reason to want to. Works well on both tight twist tracks and never lacked top end on long straights.

I sold my 5.5R as it was just too much for a car with such direct throttle response!

thanks mate, i'm going to buy the 6.5T

What do you think about using 5.5 motor with 5 cells ?

I can not say to be honest, never tried 5 cells so have no idea what the effects would be. Sorry I can't be more help.

Hi guys, just a quick one to say don't rule out the new range of Team Orion speedo's and motors. They are excellent value and the usual Team Orion quality you would expect.

Kyosho have plans to release the Lazer ZX5 readyset with a Team Orion combo inside, as an ideal entry to the club racing for all ages! Expected in Jan fingers corssed.

If you going to run that hot a set up i would look to upgrade the drive train.

In particular the driveshafts to the same ones as the SP.

I had the RTR ZX5 and i put a 4.5t brushless in it. Neil is right you will need to upgrade the driveshafts and diff halves. After one race weekend my front driveshafts were trashed and the diff halves were also worn. I would also recommend you re-shim the diffs front and back so there is no play.

I have just had to get all the parts for mine so will list them for you.

2 x Steel diff halves LA201 (for front & back) about £10 per set
1 x Universal front driveshafts - 68mm LA231 about £30
1 x Rear wheel axles LA233 about £6.00
1 x Dogbone rear driveshafts LA234 abiut £6.00

To be honest it is not a cheap list and if i had my time again i would not of got the RTR, but in my opinion without these upgrades you may struggle.

Cheers

Dave

have a look at their website http://www.teamorion.com/Products/Vo...ace+Controller

I have not heard of any saddle packs to be honest, but my guess is that they are working on them

Hope this helps
