XX4 steering bellcrank

Hi,

Was running my xx4 at the weekend and the bellcrank arm slipped on an impact. Its started to flatten a few of the splines. Is it a complete write off or can it be salvaged? I've seen how people use longer bolts and washers to stop it happening but saw them too late!

If I need a new one where can I get one from? Any other tips to stop it happening?

Thanks for your help.

Matt

LOSA1550 I think is still available.
I was lucky enough a few years back to get a full alloy bellcrank setup, but prior to that had ran the drive pin mod. Essentially you drill from the top down and insert a steel pin (similar to the ones used on the rear axles which drive the wheels), this plus a smidge of superglue helps stop the arm slipping on the splines ;)

Explained here http://www.petitrc.com/setup/losi/se...kModification/

Thanks for the info. Will have a good look for the parts and at that mod.

Incidentally, where did you get the alloy setup from?

Thanks

If you really can't find a replacement, might it be an option to 3D print the parts and use a hex mounting instead of a spline system? :) There are surprisingly strong materials that might be strong enough (though it would be practical to add a little flesh just to be safe), and looking at the size of the part it wouldn't cost a fortune either.

PS: Also, could it be worth looking into the 22-4's steering bellcranks despite the fact there might be fit issues with metric parts on non-metric car...

That's interesting about 3D printing, that would never have crossed my mind to do that!

I did wonder about the 22-4 or other losi belcranks, has anyone tried it? And got it to work more specifically!

The alloy ones I have came from the USA, advertised as a street weapon item. I bought the last 2 available and fitted one with just a very minor modification.

Sorry but the spare one isn't for sale even if you chuck in your Grandma, 10% of the Brinx Matt bootie and a gallon of Ardmore single malt :p

Ha! Fair enough! That was going to be my next question!
I've just had a look for street weapon alloy versions and the only one I found was this, would this work with some modding? Doesn't look likely to me but hey!

That's not for a xx4, looks like it's from a xxx4/xxxS.

I might have a new spare bellcrank for the xx4

I thought the same but it's advertised as for the street weapon...strange isn't it!

Oh, how much for it?

Has anyone got a 22-4 to see whether the bellcrank can be modded from that? I know it's metric but worth a look!

I've got a 22-4 I'll have a look to see if the parts fit each other

Awesome thanks. And if not if you think there is a work around.

Cheers.

I've looked and I don't have one spare bellcrank but the 22-4 part looks like it will fit.

Thanks for looking!

If the 22-4 one does fit that is great, can anyone else confirm this? Just to be sure!

That is the same as the ones I have, albeit a different colour. With just a few mod's this will fit ;)

Ah OK thanks, that's interesting!

So could go that route, though am still interested in the 22-4 one. I've checked the parts and the bearings it goes into and I reckon with a little bit material taken off so it fits in the xx4 bearing it could be a goer.

Does that look right to you guys?
