3diff dex410

With all the hype lately about the new hot bodies d413 and seeing someone else do a very nice job of making a "v5" 410 using the desc410 center diff, I decided to give it a shot.

My main goal was to get a 3rd diff in the buggy as cheaply as possible. I think I have accomplished that!

I bought the cheapest diff I could find. HobbyKing has one for $11 from their China warehouse. I also had a bunch of g10/fr4 laying around from my customer dex210 build. The last key part was an extra middle rear dogbone I had laying around from a packaging error when I originally built my 410. To finish it off I went to the hardware store to buy a bunch of screws and nuts for a few bucks.

After a bit of work and some creative dremel use, I have this!

It's not the nicest build, but I accomplished my goal. The only thing I'm waiting on now is a 3mm bore mod1 pinion. That should be in before the end of the week hopefully.

accelerate on bumpy tracks is better with the 3 diff version ;)

Have you thought about the centre diff from the v2 short course? As it has a slipper built in and you can run 48dp spur gears

I did get around to driving it last night. The car was a completely different animal. It accelerated better, braked better, and jumped better. The only downside was how much it pushed, but I didn't re-tune the car after changing everything so I'm sure I'll be able to take care of that.

Center diffs are the future for the wheeler class as far as I'm concerned. It's that big of a difference.

I did think of using a desc410 diff. Too expensive. $50+ for all the diff pieces, not including the motor/diff mount. The one I got from china had everything I needed for $15.

I've found that the dual slipper made quite asignificant difference.
Unfortunately, I'm struggling to stop it adjusting itself!

Thread lock before my next trip to the track!
