Yardy leaves Mirage / HotBodies

Top 1/10th electric buggy racer Tom Yardy contacted us to publicly express his appreciation for the support given by Mirage over the past years which has now come to an end.

Tom Yardy:
I have recently made the difficult decision to leave Mirage/HB/Nosram. One of the main reasons why this decision was so difficult is because I have raced for Mirage for over 5 years as originally a B team racer for Orion products before becoming a member of the full A team in 2005. Mirage have played an integral role in my RC development, taking me on at a much earlier stage of my racing life and I wish to thank them for their fantastic support and faith over our time together.

The main reason for asking oople to release a statement for me in this manor is that I do not wish people to see that I have left within a short period of Mirage losing another member of their A team and questioning whether something particularly negative is occurring at Mirage/HB/Nosram- THIS IS NOT THE CASE and the two events are not linked in any way.
I have taken the decision to move on mainly due to my desire for a change and a need to freshen up my racing. I have raced with Nosram products for many years now and have recently used the Hot Bodies D4 worlds 4wd car with pretty decent success making the European A final this year and prior to this season have made additional euro and national A’s using Mirage supplied equipment.
Thank-you to all the guys at Mirage and of course, all their brands which have supported me so well, in particular HPI and Nosram. I wish them every success in the future.
Tom Yardy

I think a lot of the UK 'top' guys have been very honourable in their conduct when changing sponsors, I think this is for a few reasons

Mostly, they are the 'top' sponsored guys for a reason, and that reason is not just their driving skills, its the way they conduct theirselves in the public eye as a representative of the products that they race.

Secondly, I think the companies that sponsor people are genuinely very good to their drivers. and most of the reasons for change are personal and as Tom said, just to try something new.

I think these kind of things should be looked at very closely by people that are looking to become supported/sponsored as very good examples of how to conduct theirselves.

Good Luck with the new venture Yard!

Doughty's Right On

The one trait we value more than any other in a driver is that he be a mature adult. Most important is that a driver represents every sponsor well to the public, and I'm pleased to see Tom make an honest announcement. Yardy demonstrates understanding of reality, and shows loyalty to those who have worked hard with and for him. Good for you, Tom!

As Chris says, this is what separates the top drivers.

Like all manufacturers, we receive many inquiries regarding sponsorship. Those sending E-mails often fail to realize that companies are more interested in how a driver will represent their product, the impact the driver will have on sales, than on whether or not he wins races. Winning races is good, the real goal is winning hearts.

not as cool as you though Ash :)

your tongue is stuck I think lol just kidding :p

Drivers have to be diplomatic no matter what, no sponsor would want drivers that bad mouth sponsors.
It's funny being around a lot of sponsored drivers you hear things that don't get said :), I've not ever posted anything I heard btw :)
